Shorenstein APARC Global Affiliates Program Established to strengthen connections among Asia researchers & Asian leaders from the private & public sectors to further US-Asia collaboration.

The Global Affiliates Program at the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (Shorenstein APARC) provides organizations with sponsorship opportunities to support the Center's research mission. Global Affiliates enter into continuing relationships with Shorenstein APARC, gaining enhanced access to the Center's research on contemporary Asia and to the program's key component: the Visiting

Fellows program, which allows affiliates to send personnel to study and conduct relevant research on the Stanford University campus.

For our final MEET THE TEAM, I'd like to introduce Takuya Hirata, who joins us this year from the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, Japan. During his time at METI, he has been mainly in charge of energy and environmental policy making and promoting Japanese industries. While at Stanford, his research focuses on the Startup Innovation Ecosystem and how Japan can improve its industrial competitiveness. Also, he's our biggest NBA and basketball fan! 🏀

MEET THE TEAM: Hideyuki Koshimoto joins us this year from the Japan Patent Office. Hide joined the Patent Office in 2007 and has worked as a patent examiner handling patent applications mainly in the field of chemistry. Over the years, he has also held positions in Trial and Appeal affairs, was in charge of measures against counterfeit products and was in charge of the information systems affairs. He loves to travel and the comfortable climate at Stanford, but misses his family back home in Japan.

MEET THE TEAM: Julia Wei joins us this year from D&C Think Tank and Discovery Capital in Hong Kong. She has over 20 years of experience in the financial industry including commercial banking, corporate finance, cross-border M&A, private equity and asset management. MEET THE TEAM: Kazunobu Sakuma joins us this year from the Japan Air Self Defense Force. He brings with him over 25 years of experience in strategy education & research, defense policy & planning, and aircraft maintenance. His research interest covers organizational behavior, US-Japan defense relationship, and technology, society and warfare. He's our most-avid American football fan and his favorite place on campus is the Stanford Stadium.

He has over 20 years of experience at DBJ where he focused mainly on investment activities and M&A advisory services in Japan and Vietnam. While at Stanford, he's researching different management styles among U.S., Japanese and Vietnamese companies. He misses good food from Japan, but is happy to have great colleagues here at Stanford.

MEET THE TEAM: Makoto Shishido joins us this year from Japan where he held various positions in the Ministry of Finance, Cabinet Secretariat and the Cabinet Office. Most recently, he was the Deputy Director for Basic Principles of Fiscal Management and Reform at the Cabinet Office where he was responsible for policy on economic and fiscal management and reform. He is very much enjoying the wonderful California weather (except for the recent storms) and is perfecting his driving skills every day!

Welcome to Winter Quarter 2023! Stanford and the bay area have been experiencing some crazy atmospheric winter storms recently, but we're still here!

This quarter, we'll be highlighting each of our members in our MEET THE TEAM feature. Today, please meet Jitukrushna Swain. Jitu is Senior Manager in the Corporate Development team at Reliance Life Sciences in India responsible for business development, cross-functional coordination for product registration, portfolio management, network development, and supporting international clients. He loves to travel, but misses his family back home very much. His favorite place on campus is the Stanford Dish. And through his friendly and generous personality, he has become the unofficial chef of the Global Affiliates Program!
