Looking for new options for OCD treatment?

Many people with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) feel their current treatment isn’t working as well as they hoped. Stanford Medicine is recruiting adults ages 18–65 with OCD or related conditions for the FLEX Study, a fully remote research study evaluating whether the combination of dextromethorphan and fluoxetine (Prozac) may help reduce symptoms.

Participation takes place entirely via secure videoconference and lasts about 8 weeks.

You may be eligible if you experience symptoms of:
• Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
• Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD)
• Illness anxiety disorder (IAD)
• Somatic symptom disorder (SSD)

Do you or someone you know struggle with hoarding?

Stanford Medicine is recruiting adults ages 18–70 with Hoarding Disorder to participate in a new research study evaluating Theta Burst Stimulation (TBS) — a non-invasive brain stimulation technique.

This study is testing whether brief magnetic stimulation to a targeted area of the brain may help decrease hoarding symptoms.

Study details:
• 6 days of stimulation within a 14-day period
• In-person at Stanford
• Time commitment: up to 4 weeks
• Compensation provided (up to $100)

Participate in OCD Research at Stanford Medicine

Stanford Medicine researchers are conducting a randomized, controlled clinical trial to evaluate nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) as a potential treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Nitrous oxide is an inhaled anesthetic with an established safety profile. It has shown rapid antidepressant effects in prior randomized studies, and we are now investigating whether it may also help decrease symptoms of OCD.

We are seeking adults ages 18–65 with OCD who are not currently taking medication to participate in this in-person study.

Study details:
• Randomized, controlled design
• Nitrous oxide inhalation
• 2–4 weeks of participation
• Ongoing enrollment

Participants who experience benefit may be eligible for a second phase of the study exploring how nitrous oxide produces changes in OCD symptoms.

Stanford Medicine researchers are conducting a clinical study to examine RR-HNK, a metabolite of ketamine that does not produce anesthetic or dissociative effects, and its potential impact on symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), including repetitive thoughts and behaviors.

This randomized, placebo-controlled study aims to better understand how RR-HNK affects brain activity and OCD symptoms.

Who may be eligible:
• Adults ages 18–65
• Diagnosis of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

What participation involves:
• A single infusion of RR-HNK or placebo (saline)
• EEG (brain wave) recordings before and after the infusion
• Questionnaires and computerized behavioral tasks
• Symptom monitoring over four weeks

Participate in OCD Research at Stanford Medicine

Stanford Medicine researchers are conducting a study to examine whether a brief, noninvasive activation of the brain’s vestibular (balance) system may influence the intensity of obsessive thoughts and reduce distress.

This research is enrolling adults ages 18–65 with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or related conditions, including body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), illness anxiety disorder (IAD), or somatic symptom disorder (SSD).

What participation involves:
• Eligibility screening, including psychological evaluation and physical exam
• Two sessions of noninvasive vestibular stimulation
• EEG (brain wave) recording during a computer-based attention task
• Psychological assessment
• Compensation provided
