💛 Something important is happening at Kindness Counts Thrift… and our community is the reason why. 💛
Most people don’t realize this, but Arenac County has one of the highest rates of young child homelessness in Michigan.
That means right here in our own community there are kids who don’t know where their next meal is coming from… or families who are one tough week away from needing help.
Most people (unless you spend a decent amount downtown) also don't know we have homeless people.... right in Standish....on a fairly regular basis.
And honestly? That’s not okay with us.....and we're done ignoring it.
So we’re doing what small towns do best — taking care of each other.
-We’re preparing Spring Break Food Boxes to help families keep kids fed while school meals aren’t available. Because every kid deserves snacks during spring break… not stress.
-We also currently offer Blessing Bags that include:
🧦 Socks
🧤 Gloves
🥫 Food
📋 Local shelter resources
They’re small, simple bags meant to give someone a little warmth, a little food, and a little hope when they need it most.
-Our food pantry is small but growing. If you are in need of a meal, please reach out!!!
And of course, we quietly donate clothing to individuals and families in need throughout the community whenever we can (BECAUSE of YOU!)
But we want to do more.
We’re working toward some big goals:
✨ Hosting more community food drives
✨ Creating monthly food boxes for families who need them
✨ Adding more shelving for canned goods
✨ Getting an upright freezer so we can offer frozen foods too
Basically… we’re trying to build a small but mighty army of canned soup, macaroni, and kindness.
