📱💜 WHAT IS THE 911 CELL PHONE BANK?

You may have an old cell phone sitting in a drawer that you no longer use. Did you know that phone could potentially become an emergency lifeline for someone in need?

The 911 Cell Phone Bank is a nonprofit organization that collects, securely processes, and repurposes donated electronic devices to help provide emergency communication to people who may have limited access to a phone for a variety of reasons.

The Greene County Victim/Witness Program partners with the 911 Cell Phone Bank by sending donated phones and tablets to their facility in Florida.

(Learn more about the 911 Cell Phone Bank at: https://www.911cellphonebank.org/)

There, donated devices are:
📱 Collected and processed
🔒 Securely wiped of personal information
🛠️ Repaired or refurbished when possible
📦 Returned to participating agencies and programs to then be distributed

And what about YOUR personal information? 🔒
➡️The 911 Cell Phone Bank states that it guarantees complete data erasure using third-party verification software, with its erasure process compliant with data privacy and security standards.

Our program then provides these emergency phones and tablets to survivors of domestic violence and other crimes, as well as older adults and others who may need an emergency means of communication.

💜 WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
For someone experiencing domestic violence, having access to a phone can be incredibly important. A phone can provide a way to contact 911 during an emergency, particularly when someone may not have regular access to a working phone.

📱 Donate your unused phones and help us turn unused technology into an opportunity for safety!!

While anyone can experience domestic violence, women are disproportionately affected by intimate partner violence.

The CDC also reports that women are more likely than men to experience certain impacts related to IPV, including physical injury, missed work or school, concerns for their safety, medical care, or involvement with law enforcement.

Domestic violence is a community issue. Awareness matters. Support matters. And survivors deserve to be heard, believed, and supported always.

Throughout October, we'll be sharing information about domestic violence, recognizing signs of abuse, supporting survivors, and connecting our community with resources.

Follow along and help us spread awareness this Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

If you notice these warning signs in yourself or someone you know, especially if they are new or have increased recently, take them seriously and reach out for help as soon as possible.

A conversation can make a difference. You don't have to have all the answers. Sometimes, simply listening, staying connected, and helping someone find support is an important first step.

🧡August is National Don’t Be a Bully Month🧡

Preventing bullying starts with everyday conversations, positive role models, and helping children build confidence. By checking in regularly, leading by example, and encouraging healthy friendships, adults can play an important role in creating safe and supportive environments for young people.

Together, we can help prevent bullying before it starts.

The Greene County Victim Witness Program had a very exciting day today!!😃

Our Program Director, Ashley Burruss, had the opportunity to present to the Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) community members about the services our program provides and the ways we support victims throughout our community.

We appreciate the warm welcome and the opportunity to share resources, answer questions, and connect with community partners who are dedicated to helping others. A big thank you to JABA for having us! 🫶

We were also happy to share a few goodie cups with attendees as a small token of our appreciation for their time and interest!😃💜

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

The Greene County Victim Witness Program knows that healing isn’t one-size-fits-all, and even small steps matter. Self-care can look different every day, and that’s okay!!😊

Try our self-care bingo board and see what feels right for you. ✨

Take what you need, leave what you don’t, and remember: you’re not alone.
