For our Memorial Day Event VFW POST 9179- Stamford, Texas will be placing Flags on all Veterans graves in Stamford, Haskell, Rule, and Sagerton.

This will require a huge effort and span two to three days prior to Memorial Day.

We are asking for community support in sponsorship and volunteers to assist us in this effort.

If you are able to contribute time helping, money, or grave site flags we would be extremely grateful.

Additionally, we also welcome any information on Veterans graves that we may not know or have currently listed or that weren't honored in the past.

Today, on the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and determination of the men and women who helped defeat tyranny in World War II.

Veterans from Jones County and Haskell County answered the call when freedom was threatened across the world. Farmers, mechanics, teachers, cowboys, and small-town young men left places like Stamford, Anson, Hamlin, Haskell, Rule, Weinert, Rochester, and surrounding communities to serve in Europe, Africa, the Pacific, and at home supporting the war effort.

Some never made it home. Others returned carrying memories they rarely spoke about. But their service helped secure one of the greatest victories in modern history.

VE Day reminds us that freedom has always come at a price — and that even small rural communities in West Texas played a role in changing the course of world history.

Today we honor the Greatest Generation and all veterans from Jones and Haskell Counties who served our nation with honor.

Please take a moment today to remember them.

Stamford Future Farmers of America Banquet 2026

Two different organizations; Same core values and vision.

Service before Self....Sacrafice for the Greater Good and Country.

The Future Farmers of America (FFA) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) both share these core values.

This is Andy Rice, Adjutant and Quartermaster for VFW POST 9179- Stamford, Texas .

I, like many of my VFW Brothers and Sisters, wore the FFA Blue and Gold long before we put on a military service uniform.

While we didn’t know it then there is no doubt that wearing that FFA Jacket and uniform helped shape who we would become in the military and post military life.

At the March 04th 2026 Stamford FFA Annual Banquet my wife Laura Rice and I were extremely humbled and honored to be able to sponsor additional awards for the FFA Star Greenhand Awardees this year on behalf of VFW POST 9179- Stamford, Texas

Commander Harris was on site to hand out additional VFW Certificates of Achievement to the Star Greenhand Awardees and Hamlin Commander Arnold Silva donated a $50.00 gift card which was awarded to the Stamford FFA Top Vo Ag Shop Student this year Tagen Pimpton. Congratulations Tagen and thank you Commanders for your support.

And many thanks to Stamford FFA Linda Bigelow and Curt Muhelstein for having us.
