❤️ Light It Up Red – Laura Sullivan, Esq., Special Education Legal Fund

As part of our Light It Up Red Campaign, today we recognize Laura Sullivan, a dedicated special education attorney and passionate advocate for students with disabilities and their families.

Laura serves as Staff Attorney and Director of S.E.L.F. Legal Aid at Special Education Legal Fund, a program providing direct special education legal services to under-resourced families in Connecticut. Through her work, Laura helps ensure that families have access to legal advocacy and that students with disabilities receive the educational services and supports they need and deserve.

Prior to joining S.E.L.F. in 2025, Laura represented children and adolescents with disabilities whose educational needs were not being appropriately addressed by their public school districts. Her commitment to special education advocacy is supported by extensive legal training, a Certificate in Special Education Advocacy from the PELE Clinic at William & Mary Law School, and 60 hours of Orton-Gillingham Plus training.

Laura's dedication extends beyond her legal practice. She has previously served on the Board of Directors of Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities and the Western Connecticut Center for Human Rights. She is a member of the Connecticut and New York Bars and was admitted to the United States Supreme Court Bar in 2023.

Laura's combination of legal expertise, knowledge of specialized reading instruction, and commitment to educational equity brings an important perspective to advocacy for students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.

Her work reflects the spirit of the Light It Red for Dyslexia campaign — raising awareness, empowering families, and advocating for meaningful access to appropriate educational services.
