The momentum behind the next generation of automotive craftspeople is real. 🏁

This year, 365 students requested applications for Piston Foundation scholarships, our strongest response yet and more than 50% growth over last year.

From a historic $75,000 grant from the LuLuMa Foundation, to over $70,000 raised through recent charity auctions, this community continues to fuel real opportunity for future technicians and restorers. 🔧

Meet Matt Peckham: Piston Foundation board member based in Chatham, NJ, and a lifelong believer in the power of cars to connect generations.

Matt’s story starts early. At just 14, he spotted a 1949 Ford pickup with a flathead V8 on his dad’s construction yard, and spent two years sweeping floors to earn it. That truck didn’t just get him on the road, it set the course. Soon after came racing Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprites in college (and, admittedly, a few sacrificed grades along the way).
But for Matt, cars have always been about more than just driving, they’re about the moments they create.

Like tackling the Peking to Paris Endurance Rally with his son in a 1939 Chevrolet, covering 9,000 miles over 35 days through landscapes and cultures most people only dream of. Or a sunset drive through Wyoming in a well-loved Porsche 993 with his daughter- one of those perfect, fleeting moments you wish you could hold onto forever.

Snickers in the glovebox. The Beatles on the radio. And a deep belief that this passion only survives if we invest in the people behind it.

“Without the next generation of skilled technicians to restore and maintain these cars, the hobby disappears. Piston is how we keep it alive.”

It’s easy to see an auction as a final number.
But this one turned into something bigger.

Because of this community, 12 students now have the opportunity to pursue careers in automotive restoration.

12 future technicians.
12 stories just getting started.
12 reasons this work matters.

This is what happens when passion for cars meets purpose.

Thank you to everyone who bid, shared, and believed in what we’re building.

Some people find their path early.
Others build it, one unexpected turn at a time.
Blake Swingle’s story is somewhere in between.
From welding jobs across the country to picking up a camera to hold onto moments… to becoming a full-time automotive photographer, his journey is a reminder that the path into this industry isn’t always linear.

It’s driven by curiosity.
By craft.
By the people you meet along the way.

And for Blake, the Piston Foundation Scholarship played a pivotal role in turning that curiosity into a career, opening doors to storytelling, connection, and a deeper understanding of the cars (and people) that shape this world.

But this is just a glimpse.
→ How did a yellow Land Rover Defender spark it all?
→ Why is he turning to film photography in the age of AI?
→ And what happens when you take a 1912 Simplex on an 80-mile rally?

A piece of American design history, with a purpose.

This 1950 Spartan Royal Mansion isn’t just a trailer, it’s a reflection of post-war innovation. Aircraft-inspired construction, Art Deco styling, and craftsmanship that still holds up over 70 years later.

Refurbished and thoughtfully preserved, it features a polished aluminum body, cherry cabinetry, a full galley, and even a stainless-lined shower, blending vintage character with livable comfort.

But what makes this one even more special:
100% of the proceeds support the Piston Foundation, helping the next generation build careers in automotive restoration.

Preserving the past. Investing in the future.

Auction ends soon on don’t miss your chance to own something truly iconic.

The car industry doesn’t have a demand problem. It has a people problem.

We’re pushing forward: EVs, innovation, new technology,
but losing the very people who keep it all running.

Technicians. Fabricators. Restorers.
The hands behind the work.

Skilled trades aren’t a fallback plan. They’re the foundation.

And right now, that foundation needs investment,
education, access, mentorship, and real opportunity.

Because the future of this industry isn’t just designed.
It’s built.
