Celebrating Italian-American Heritage Month at Our Lady of Grace!

On Tuesday, October 20, Sister Maria’s Kindergarten class welcomed a very special guest!

Our very own Finance Director, Mary Lou Rinaldi, joined us as a member of UNICO Stamford to share a little Italian heritage through the joy of storytelling.

Mary Lou treated our kindergarteners to a reading of Tomie dePaola’s beloved "Strega Nona", a wonderful Italian-inspired tale that captured the children's attention and brought plenty of smiles!

Italian heritage holds a special place in the hearts of the Sisters, Little Workers of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, who have been part of Stamford's vibrant Italian-American community since 1948.

Throughout October, we are delighted to celebrate these beautiful traditions and introduce our children to the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Italian Americans, especially here in Stamford.

A heartfelt thank you to Mary Lou, a dear friend and extraordinary supporter of the Sisters, for sharing her time and enthusiasm with our children. We are also grateful to UNICO Stamford for helping us make Italian-American Heritage Month a meaningful and memorable experience for our students!

Grazie mille, Mary Lou and UNICO Stamford!

Unico Stamford’s very own heritage committee with the Harry Bennett Library hosted a presentation on Stamford’s sister city: Settefrati, Italy in honor of Italian Heritage Month! We learned about the history of Settefrati, the traditions and feasts as well as sampled their famous pasta and beans! Grazie to all who attended!

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday at CT State Norwalk for our public screening of Cinema Paradiso, followed by some delicious pizza! 🇮🇹

UNICO Stamford is proud to have partnered with CT State Norwalk in celebrating Italian Heritage Month. As part of this collaboration, UNICO and the college also created an educational exhibit highlighting notable Italian and Italian-American achievements. The exhibit is currently on display in the college library, alongside a curated selection of Italian-themed books.

A special thanks to CT State Norwalk and its library services team for their collaboration and support in bringing these educational programs to campus!

Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons came out in support of the Italian American community once again, attending the 2026 UNICO Columbus Day ceremony and celebration at Columbus Park this past Sunday. She braved the weather and stood out in the rain with all so many proud Italian Americans. Dr. Alfred Fusco, Unico past President and current Italian Heritage Committee Chairman officiated over the ceremony.
