We are all well aware of the ravages of the second wave COVID-19 pandemic unfolding in India. While the Northeast region was largely spared during the first wave, this second wave has been different. It is spreading to the rural areas currently. Especially vulnerable regions are ones like our Tribal Empowerment Project (TEP) school community in Manipur which lack even the basic healthcare infrastructure like a doctor or a pharmacy nearby.

In this hour of great need, to help prepare them for this second wave, a group of Asha Stamford volunteers and doctors in CT/NY/NJ area have come together to design a Community COVID-19 Response. TEP school teachers have formed a COVID Task Force to guide the community in COVID-care. On Saturday, May 15, 2021, they were trained by three doctors from the CT/NY area in various aspects of COVID-19 - the disease, preventive measures, and homecare. As a humanitarian project beyond the mission of Asha Stamford, a private fundraising drive is being held (see photo for donation details) to equip the TEP school community, of about 2,200 people, with protective and medicinal supplies. Thank you to all who have joined hands with us on this one (this is not an Asha Stamford fundraiser). Write to us at [email protected] for more details. Stay safe and healthy!

Asha 2020 tournament in in the books. Congratulations to Fanatics for winning their 4th Asha tournament in a row.

Stars and Fanatics final was a defensive battle and both teams played exceptionally well and made the tournament fun and exciting. Fanatics won the game with 1 ball to spare.

Inspite of the circumstances this year, we continued to see enthusiasm and support for the tournament from the cricketing community of Fairfield County and Weschester County.

Glad to see that the tournament finishing without any hitches. Every participant was conscious of the situation and took plenty of precautions.

I would like to extend my special thanks to
Deep Adalja for helping with scoring and umpiring throughout the tournament
Stamford Cricket Community - Roshan for help with equipment and Sushanth and Roshan for umpiring support in crucial games
Mansukhani for sponsoring the trophies for the tournament

Thanks to the support of the cricketing community, we were able to raise over 3.5K to support our projects. If we missed seeing you this year, hope to see you again next year!

Our Story

We are the Stamford, CT chapter of Asha for Education, a volunteer run registered 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the education of underprivileged children in India. We started the chapter in September 2002. It is a completely volunteer driven organization, comprising of dedicated individuals from Fairfield County, striving to make a difference to the society. We believe that education is one of the primary factors in shaping a child’s future and by extension, future of the entire country. Asha Stamford works closely with project partners in India, including, Assam Center for Rural Development (ACRD’s Nartap High School and Bonpura Primary School) and Tribal Empowerment Project. We organized local fundraisers and community awareness events. Our Summer Cricket Tournament Event, a popular event in the Area, is Asha Stamford’s primary fundraiser, which directly helps support several education projects in India. Event started in this year, and has grown to a large event today with continual efforts of its volunteers and the support of patrons.

Today, there are over 73 Asha chapters worldwide, with more than a 1,000 volunteers. Asha has disbursed over $17 million as of 2008 and supported more than 400 different projects spanning 24 states in India. The organization has a zero overhead policy on donations, i.e. 100% of all donations get spent on educational projects in India.
