The ELM Project

Enhancing the lives of youth living with chronic illness by providing a summer camp experience and the tools for a healthy, independent future.

Our programs include:

Camp AmeriKids: one week residential summer camp experience for children ages 8-16 affected by HIV/AIDS and sickle cell disease, volunteer counselors 18+, and volunteer program area instructors (dance, sports, arts and crafts, spoken word, drama, and more). Leader-In-Training Program: year-round teen leadership group for teens ages 16-18 who were previously campers with Camp

AmeriKids. Mentor Program: year-round one to one mentoring program for young people ages 16-20 who were previously campers with Camp AmeriKids. All youth programs are open to Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York families and are completely free of charge. Volunteers have come from all over the world including the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, the UK, and Australia.

Last year’s efforts brought in over $100,000! That made it possible to provide transportation, lodging, enrichment, medical support, meals, and lifelong memories for all 133 campers that attended Camp AmeriKids last year. Can we do it again this year? Let’s ignite the night for campfire lights! The heat is on!

✨ We have incredible news! ✨
The ELM Project is proud to announce that Chloe Ettari is passing the torch, and Imani Morgan will be stepping into the role of Executive Director starting June 1st. Imani's journey with The ELM Project began in 2019 and has grown every step of the way. She began as a part-time staff member in the office for four summers and later as a dedicated volunteer at Camp AmeriKids on the Wellness team. Chloe and Imani will have a three-month overlap to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition. Imani is more than ready for her next adventure with ELM, so please join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter!
