The Memorial Walk at The Fish Church in Stamford holds a special significance, commemorating individuals from Christian history spanning ancient times to the present day. In a poignant tribute to the modern era, three stones were added in 1971, one of which honors the enduring legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., a pivotal figure in the civil rights movement.

As we reflect on the rich tapestry of our history, the inclusion of Martin Luther King Jr.'s stone serves as a reminder of his tireless advocacy for justice, equality, and the ideals of love and unity that continues to resonate today.

Happy New Year!

As we step into the new year, here's a fascinating factoid about the Fish Church Carillon. Unlike traditional carillons with stationary bells, our unique carillon boasts three swinging bells.

The impressive 6,820-pound Bourdon bell resonates with a rich B flat tone, accompanied by the melodious notes of a D natural bell and an enchanting F natural bell.

This distinctive feature adds a special touch to the musical charm of our carillon, making it a standout and memorable experience for all who encounter its unique sounds.

Come join us to celebrate Christmas Eve at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, located at 1101 Bedford Street. You can choose from two distinct services to suit your preferences.

The 4:00 pm service is a delightful family-oriented celebration featuring a Living Nativity. Immerse yourself in the heartwarming story with shepherds, sheep, Mary, Joseph, Jesus, wise men, angels, a dancing star, and, of course, a camel.

For those seeking a later service, our 9:00 pm gathering includes a concert prelude starting at 8:30 pm, adding a musical touch to your Christmas Eve experience.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Sixty-six years ago, on this historic day, a pivotal moment unfolded at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford. The installation of a 30-foot, 1,800 lb. stainless steel upper section of the carillon tower by helicopter marked not only a remarkable architectural achievement but also contributed to the rich legacy of this National Historic Landmark..

Join us Dec 15th, at 7:30 pm for the 34th annual Brass and Organ concert, a highlight of the Christmas holiday season at the Fish Church.

A favorite community event in Stamford for many years, the concert features the 12-member New York Symphonic Brass ensemble accompanied by FPC Minister of Music Kevin Bailey playing the 4,026 pipe Visser Rowland organ.

We are grateful to the City of Stamford Arts and Culture grant for partially underwriting the cost of the concert.

This December, the Fish Church is stepping up to help the Lower Fairfield County Food Bank meet a pressing need: pasta and sauces. While donations usually pour in during the holidays, they're often holiday-specific items like stuffing and canned veggies. However, food banks also need staples for everyday meals, and pasta and sauces are among the most requested items.

Donations can be dropped off any Sunday in December or Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The last day to drop off donations is Friday, December 29th. Donations can be placed on the table next to the Dove tree.

For those with busy schedules during the holidays, financial donations are also welcome. Label your financial donation ""Food Drive"" in the memo so it can be directed appropriately. Together, we can ensure families have access to everyday meals this holiday season.

The stained glass in The Fish Church, officially the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, creates a breathtaking rainbow effect during the four weeks before and after the winter solstice. This stunning display is the result of a harmonious interplay between the angle of the sun, the church’s uniquely tilted walls (angled at 74 to 78 degrees), and the faceted dalle de verre, also known as slab glass. Designed by architect Wallace K. Harrison, the church’s stained glass not only enhances its modernist architecture but also transforms the sanctuary into a vibrant celebration of light during the darkest days of the year, drawing admiration from the Stamford community and visitors alike.

In December 1956, the precast concrete panels of The Fish Church in Stamford were being carefully installed, marking a significant milestone in the construction of this iconic architectural landmark. Officially known as the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, The Fish Church is celebrated for its innovative design, which symbolizes a fish—a traditional Christian symbol. This phase of construction brought the vision of architect Wallace K. Harrison closer to reality, blending artistry and engineering to create a space that continues to inspire awe in the Stamford community and beyond
