Springdale Fire Co., Stamford, CT (2026)

Now, Springdale is Stamford’s oldest volunteer department still in operation today. The first Springdale firehouse was located at 980 Hope Street, and was erected on a plot of land donated by Mr. Robert Kerr. On this plot, a two story building was built containing a large meeting room, apparatus room and hall. Until November of 1909, when Stamford Fire Department donated a hose carrier, the Spring

dale Fire Company operated with no apparatus at all. In 1915, the Springdale Fire Company purchased their first chemical engine, an American LaFrance chemical hosewagon. From the fall of 1919 to 1927 the company began to realize that with the ever growing size of the community, the Springdale community needed more protection. Along withe the addition of new officers positions, the Springdale Fire Company abandoned their past alerting technique and installed airhorns for signaling call locations. The Springdale Fire Company also purchased a Buick supply wagon in 1919, and traded their first apparatus for a new American LaFrance 750 gallon pumper and also purchased a 500 gallon Buffalo pumper. After the second World War, the volunteers of Springdale Fire Company noticed a dire need for a new firehouse and equipment. The community had grown and the Springdale Fire Company had grown as well. Through the generous donations of the residents of Springdale, the Springdale Fire Company was able to secure the purchase of a new plot of land and began to build their new firehouse at 987 Hope Street in 1955. The new firehouse was completed in 1957 and is the present home of the Springdale Fire Company. By 1991 the Springdale Fire Company was running a ford Bluestar ambulance, a 1981 Ford utility truck, a 1965 Mack 1000 gpm custom pumper, a 1977 Seagrave 1250gpm Pumper, a 1985 65ft Ford Snorkel aerial truck and a 1986 Mack 1250 gpm pumper.

Springdale Fire Company is seeking dedicated, motivated, and community-minded volunteers to join our team and help protect and serve the Springdale community.

As a volunteer member, you will have the opportunity to receive training, gain valuable experience, serve your community, and become part of a proud fire company tradition.

Volunteer Responsibilities & Opportunities

Volunteers are expected to actively participate in the operations and activities of the fire company, including:

-Attending weekly training drills to maintain and improve firefighting, EMS, and emergency response skills.
-Attending fire and EMS certification classes, which are paid for by the company.
-Responding to the firehouse for a wide range of fire, EMS, rescue, and service-related calls.
-Responding to major incidents and emergencies when additional staffing is needed.
-Providing storm coverage and assisting during severe weather events.
-Participating in station coverage and staffing assignments to help ensure adequate emergency response capabilities.
-Participating in public education and community engagement events.
-Assisting with fire company operations, maintenance, and activities.
-Participating in fundraising events and community activities that support the continued operation of the fire company.
-Working as part of a team with fellow volunteers and career personnel to provide professional emergency services to the community.

🚒 Structure Fire Response – January 24, 2026 🚒

Last night on 1/24/2026, volunteers from the Springdale Fire Company responded with Engine 51 to a structure fire on Knickerbocker Avenue, working alongside the Stamford Fire Department.

Springdale firefighters were able to quickly establish a water supply for Stamford Fire Department Engine 7. Once water was secured, Springdale members assisted interior crews with fire suppression, searches of the building, securing power to the structure, and overhaul operations.

Additional Springdale volunteers responded to the firehouse to ensure coverage for the rest of our district. Due to below-freezing temperatures, members covering the firehouse later responded to the scene with Unit 55 to help collect hose lines used during the initial fire operations.

While Engine 51’s crew was still on scene completing cleanup and packing hose to return to service, the crew assigned to the station responded to two additional alarm activations with Engine 57 and the Stamford Fire Department.

Springdale Fire Company volunteers remain committed to protecting our community and ensuring continuous coverage of the Springdale district—no matter the conditions.
