DEADLINE FRIDAY! ⛵️ Don't miss your chance to be a part of the 26th Annual Vivian & Stanley Reed Marine Show, online and In-person at The Townhouse Gallery.

This is a multimedia juried exhibit with cash prizes. We are asking artists across disciplines and experience levels to submit up to 9 pieces of artwork on the theme of all things MARINE: the sea, the seashore, boats, activity on or near the water, etc. The exhibit is named after Vivian and Stanley Reed, two founding members of SAA and avid sailors.

This year’s co-jurors are Debapriya Sarkar and Michael Bagley.

Debapriya Sarkar is Associate Professor of English and Maritime Studies at UConn Stamford, where she teaches Shakespeare, early modern literature, oceanic and maritime literature, environmental humanities, and science studies. ON NOW through June 20th: The Technicolor Daydream
Art by Barrett Jones

Gallery Hours: FRI-SUN, 12-3 PM

Exhibition Statement: I paint to escape the straight lines of the chain store parking lots, the endless scroll of the soul sapping smartphones, the expensive emptiness of the desirable neighborhoods and the peeling paint of the public housing hallways. I paint to escape the boredom of the line at the pharmacy and the wait at the bus stop and the half hour lunch break. I paint to escape the AI slop bubbling out of data centers built on meadows where birds once sang and flowers once bloomed. I paint the precious seconds of a rainbow’s lifetime, the morning sunbeam shining through a dew drop hanging on a spider’s web, the diamond sparkle of a carpet of snow crystals catching the light of a full moon. I paint my TECHNICOLOR DAYDREAM.

Artist Bio: Barrett Jones is a Norwalk artist who uses the medium of acrylic paint to create dreamscapes of colors and patterns. In addition to painting, Barrett is also a poet and musician. His poetry has been published in Viper’s Tongue International Poetry and Prose Journal. His band Fantastic Purple Spots can be heard on all major music streaming platforms.

As we remember the great David Hockney, we’re taking some inspiration from his bright, strange, beautiful images of the sea, pools, boats, palms, sunlight, and life near the water.
