C’mon out and see some of our little league coaches playing base ball 19th century style with 11 teams across three fields on a former dairy farm in Bovina! Kids are invited to join in an 1864 pickup game at 1:30pm with Coach Collin Miller. All proceeds raised during this event go to supporting our league thanks to Delaware County Vintage Base Ball Association member clubs.
Old Time Base Ball Festival Returns to Bovina
Saturday & Sunday October 3 & 4
Coming off a historic come-from-behind victory at the Worlds Tournament in Dearborn, MI, the Bovina Dairymen will team up with other local clubs and sponsor Livestock Foundation to host the sixth annual Cowtown Scramble Vintage Base Ball Festival on Saturday & Sunday, October 3rd and 4th in Bovina Center. Set amid the backdrop of autumn splendor on a former dairy farm, this annual event has become the “fall classic” for vintage baseball enthusiasts across the Northeast who play our National Pastime by the rules and customs of the nineteenth century.
Play begins at 10am on Saturday with games every hour and forty-five minutes across three fields. New this year, the event will feature a midday break at 1:30pm when 9–12-year-old boys and girls will try their hand at an 1864 rules match. At 4:30pm, festival goers will be treated to a rousing performance by the Stoddard Hollow String Band under the Creamery Park pavilion. Sunday’s games begin at 8:30am and wrap up with the final matches concluding around 3:30pm. Goatie White’s Food Truck will be cooking all day and into the evening for festivalgoers.
Most games will be played according to the rules and customs of 1864 before mitts were common, the pitching was underhand and balls caught on the bound were an out. With eleven teams from five states participating, organizers say this field of teams matches the largest turnout since the festival launched in 2021. The following slate of teams will be participating:
Atlantic Base Ball Club (BBC) of Brooklyn, Bovina Dairymen, Brickmakers BBC of Saugerties, Polecats BBC aka Hamden Nine, Kingston Guards, Mountain Athletic Club, Mutual Base Ball Club of N.Y., Rising Sun BBC (MD), Providence Grays, Dirigo BBC of Maine, and the Westfield Wheelmen.
Admission to the event and post-game concert are free and spectators are encouraged to bring their own seating. Catskill Mountain Little Leaguers will be on hand for parking assistance and accepting donations where all proceeds go to supporting the CMLL baseball/softball programs.
Creamery Park is located at 1394 County Highway 6 Bovina, NY. For lodging suggestions and more information, visit www.delcovintagebaseball.org/festival.
