🥾 Troop 9 Backpacking Adventure – Appalachian Trail, NY
Dates: November 15–16, 2025
Location: Morgan Stewart Memorial Shelter, near Holmes, NY

🌄 Congratulations to the T9 Backpacking Crew!
Three senior Scouts, two new members, and four dedicated adult leaders successfully completed a 4.5-mile overnight backpacking trek on the iconic Appalachian Trail in New York State. This journey brought our Scouts face-to-face with the challenges and rewards of true backcountry hiking

🏕️ Trail Highlights
• Route: Appalachian Trail section to Morgan Stewart Memorial Shelter
• Scenery: Stunning rocky ledge overlooks with panoramic views of Dutchess County
• Weather: Sunny and cool (40s) during the day; overnight rain and thunderstorms cleared by morning.

🔥 Scout Skills in Action
• Full backpacks carried all essentials: food, water, shelter
• Dehydrated meals and hot drinks prepared on mini-stoves
• Firewood gathered and bear bags hung safely by older Scouts
• Comfortable sleep in the lean-to despite stormy conditions.

💧 Leadership & Problem Solving
• Pre-trip planning ensured preparedness despite water scarcity at the site
• Special thanks to Mr. Christian (ASM) for hiking out 1 mile to bring water back for the crew

🌟 Reflections & Achievements
• Scouts rose to the challenge with teamwork, resilience, and Scout spirit
• New members integrated seamlessly and contributed to the group’s success
• The crew took time to reflect on their accomplishments and the joy of Scouting

🎯 Looking Ahead
This trip was a powerful reminder of what Troop 9 stands for: adventure, preparedness, and growth. We’re proud of every participant and excited for our next camping experience!

Troop 9’s latest camping adventure included making bushcraft chairs and wood fired pizzas, and playing sports.
The Scouts worked on backpacking stoves and learning how to filter water.
