Since 1999, LRTC has always been helping!
Selfless, dedicated, professional, caring, and willing to sacrifice — these are just a few of the words that describe the LRTC all-volunteer team. Anywhere and everywhere there is a need, you will find our team working throughout Northwestern Nevada and beyond.
When one of our partners in the Wild Horse Alliance of Northern Nevada needed assistance, LRTC was there! The photos below show LRTC volunteers hanging gates, assisting a veterinarian, helping horses in need, and much more.
Whenever there is a need, we are there — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in good weather and bad. We proudly serve the community, wild and domestic horses, mules, other large animals, and the people who care for and love them.

The 2026 Joint WHC & LRTC Fundraising Dinner is officially in the books!

On behalf of Wild Horse Connection and LRTC, THANK YOU to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, sponsored, or supported this year’s sold-out event. By every measure, it was a tremendous success, and it would not have been possible without the incredible support of our community.

A very special thank you goes out to the more than 40 WHC & LRTC volunteers and community members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes — from securing silent auction items and business donations, to decorating the hall, preparing a fantastic meal, setting up, and cleaning up afterward. Your dedication made the evening possible.

We would also like to recognize and thank the businesses and organizations who generously donated services, products, or financial support:

• Dolan Auto Group
• Horse Tales Magazine
• QConcret
• Anneke Schat’s Bakery
• The Bunny Ranch
• Truckee Sourdough Company
• Dayton Preservation Committee
• Dayton Chamber of Commerce
• Data Graphics
• Anchor Tech Design
• NV-Wild Photography – Nancy Florence

Thank you as well to everyone who donated items to our Silent Auction and to our outstanding entertainment for the evening, Dayton’s own Classic Vinyl.

Mark your calendars now — this event will return on Saturday, May 22, 2027! Watch for tickets to go on sale around March 1.

We hope to see you all again next year

**Thank You, Washoe Valley Alliance**
Yesterday, May 9, LRTC attended this year’s Celebrate Washoe Valley Day at Washoe Lake State Park. Throughout the event, we had the opportunity to speak with members of the public about the services we provide as a non-profit organization and the work our volunteers perform throughout northwestern Nevada.
We also had the opportunity to network with several of our friends, partners, and agencies we work alongside, including Hidden Valley / The Haven Horse Sanctuary, the Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, South Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and a representative from the BLM Wild Horse and B***o Program.
All in all, it was a great and successful day. We would like to thank the Washoe Valley Alliance for bringing the community together and hosting such a wonderful event.

What do three goats, two horses, and one pig have in common?

They all needed a ride to a new home about 50 miles away.
Recently, LRTC received a request to assist a local animal owner with transporting several animals from the Dayton area to Dog Valley. While this is not the sort of mission we normally handle, we accepted the assignment as another opportunity to support our community and gain valuable experience.
Early on the morning of May 1, one of our five transport trailers and three Rescue Technicians were dispatched to the pickup site. One advantage of our trailers is the built-in divider system, which allowed the horses to travel safely in their own section while the smaller animals rode comfortably in another.
There was some concern that the pig might prove difficult to load, but all of the animals cooperated and were loaded with very little fuss. By noon, everyone had safely arrived at their new home.
For our team, the mission also provided valuable hands-on experience loading and transporting domestic animals — something we do not encounter every day, but skills that can prove important during emergency evacuations and rescue operations.

💧 HUGE THANK YOU, Whole Foods Market – Reno! 💧

Working year-round in the harsh Nevada desert takes a serious toll on our LRTC team. Whether we’re out on wild horse relocations, large-animal rescues, or emergency evacuations, our volunteers face extreme conditions every single time we deploy.

And in those conditions—hydration isn’t optional. It’s critical.

That’s why we are incredibly grateful to Whole Foods Market – Reno for stepping up in a BIG way—donating a year’s supply of bottled water to our team… that’s nearly 50 cases!

This generous support helps keep our volunteers safe, healthy, and ready to respond when large animals need us most.

👉 Next time you’re at Whole Foods Market – Reno, please take a moment to thank them for supporting LRTC and helping protect both our team and the animals we serve.

🚨 What does LRTC actually do?

Every single day, our all-volunteer team is out making a difference across Northern Nevada.

• Supporting Wild Horse Connection and the 3,300 Virginia Range wild horses
• Providing the region’s most comprehensive Technical Large Animal Rescue program
• Evacuating horses ahead of floods and wildfires

And we train constantly to be ready.

Just this past Saturday, our team completed hands-on Domestic Horse Loading & Emergency Shelter training—learning how to safely load horses, prep trailers for rapid response, complete critical paperwork, and ensure owners know where their animals are taken during an emergency.

This is real-world, boots-on-the-ground work that happens when every second counts.

💪 We’re proud of the skill, dedication, and professionalism our volunteers bring to every call.

❤️ If you believe in protecting our wild horses, supporting our community, and saving animals in times of crisis, please consider supporting LRTC.

🚨 LRTC Announces Promotion of Dave Palmer to Captain 🚨
LRTC is proud to announce the promotion of Dave Palmer from Senior Rescue Technician to the rank of Captain.
In his new role, Captain Palmer will help oversee several of our rescue vehicles and assist in leading our South Zone team. Since joining LRTC in 2022, Dave has consistently demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and a strong command of the many skills required of an LRTC Rescue Technician.
Known for his calm demeanor and steady leadership, Dave brings thoughtful guidance to situations that can often be fast-moving and unpredictable—making him a natural fit for this leadership position.
With the Palmers, service truly runs in the family. Dave’s wife, Beth Palmer, is also an integral part of LRTC as a Senior Rescue Technician and a key member of our dispatch team. Together, they exemplify the commitment and teamwork that define our organization.
We are incredibly fortunate to have both Dave and Beth serving our community, and we congratulate Captain Palmer on this well-earned promotion.
