Have you received a suspicious message saying you have a warrant out for your arrest or that you won a cash prize? Did they say you can wire transfer money or use Bitcoin? Are they telling you not to talk to anybody else?

IT’S LIKELY A SCAM.

* If you receive a message from somebody and are unsure if it is a scam, JUST HANG UP and call 540-658-4400 to speak with a confirmed deputy.

* The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER contact you to pay a fine to avoid arrest, nor will any law enforcement agency.

* Anytime an individual requests payment through gift cards, wire transfer or Bitcoin, it is a likely indicator of a SCAM.

* SHARE this information with others and help prevent the next scam from happening to a member of our community.
