Jane used to walk long distances each day to collect water for her family.

It was a routine shared by so many women in her community.

But over time, the weight of that journey took more than anyone should have to give—including the loss of her baby.

This is the part of the water crisis we don’t always see.

Today, Jane has safe water just steps from home.

Her children are growing up carrying something different.

Not just water. But hope.

Millions of families are still living under the weight of unsafe water.

Help lift their burden. Learn more by checking out the first comment.

“In my community, there were many difficulties due to the scarcity of safe water.”

Arecio Osorto, a 60-year-old farmer in Salazar de Linaca, Honduras, explained how he and his neighbors were affected by the water crisis.

“In the winter, the rivers and hand-dug wells were our only sources of water. The water was dirty and full of debris, and we had to walk for hours to fetch it. We didn’t have the resources to build a new well. Many families got sick.”

Now, there is new hand pump in his community.

Arecio shared gratefully, “We have a reliable place to easily collect water for our families. This well is essential and a great blessing. Children and entire families no longer consume unsafe and contaminated water.”

“When I was initially transferred to the health center in this community, I almost requested to return back to my former workplace because this health center had such a terrible water crisis.”

Hawa Momodu, a 55-year-old head nurse in Mokassie, Sierra Leone, shared how staff and patients experienced severe complications because of lack of safe water.

Hawa continued, “This healthcare facility has been here over 20 years, and yet we had no safe water source. We suffered for so long with no access to safe water. To gather water, we had to travel long distances to the river.

For instance, when we worked labor and delivery cases, we had to rush to the river to fetch water, and it was dangerous during the night. We only ventured out there when we absolutely had to.

Another time, there was a year when over 20 kids suffered from diarrhea. We did our best to save their lives, yet still we lost one of the kids.

It was a really sad time for the parents and the community, and a very difficult moment for us all.”

Now, there is a safe water hand pump right outside the door of the health center.

“We are very grateful to God and Living Water International for providing safe water for us,” Hawa shared. "And the most exciting part is that the hand pump is right at our doorstep! We give God the glory.”

"When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy." -Psalm 94:19

Continual underlying joy is possible — not because the problems disappear, but because God’s comfort meets us in the middle of them.

If you feel comfortable, share one way you’ve seen hope or comfort break through a difficult season. Your story could encourage someone today.

“People lived in constant stress, knowing that every activity depended on fetching water from a risky and unreliable place.”

Edmond, a 37-year-old farmer living in Antokrom, Ghana, shared how overwhelmed he and his neighbors were by the lack of safe water in his community.

“We accessed water through a single unprotected stream hidden deep in the bush. The path leading to it was narrow and steep, making it extremely difficult to walk.

Families reused small amounts of water repeatedly, and bathing was often skipped most days. My son Kwaku is 9, yet he carries burdens that even grown adults fear.

One morning, he came home shaking and barefoot. He had stepped near a trap farmers set for animals. It snapped shut just beside his foot.

He kept repeating, ‘Father, I could have died.’ I held him tightly, but the hardest part was knowing that he needed to go back the next morning because the house needed water.

The water we collected always made us sick. My youngest child was admitted to the clinic several times with diarrhea. School was almost impossible. My children reached class tired, late, and hungry.”

Staff at Living Water Ghana installed a new hand pump. Edmond is so grateful.

He said, “This new hand pump will bring stability and relief to our community. It will significantly reduce the number of illnesses caused by contaminated water, especially among our children.

This is a life changing opportunity for us to lift our community out of daily suffering.”
