Good food, friendly competition, and an opportunity to celebrate an important milestone: This week we marked the centennial of Black History Month with a Juneteenth lunch featuring chicken, dirty rice, and delicious homemade cupcakes, followed by a spirited round of Juneteenth Jeopardy!

Thank you to the Equity, Culture & Belonging Committee for making this celebration possible and for helping us honor and reflect on Black history and culture.

We're proud that all of our Legal Services of Eastern Missouri offices host summer interns, and we especially appreciate the opportunities our Hannibal and Union offices provide to help future legal professionals gain experience serving rural communities.

Summer Intern Abigail Daw recently had the opportunity to attend the Northern Missouri District Bench & Bar Seminar in Hannibal on June 12, where she connected with legal professionals and learned more about the important work being done throughout Northeast Missouri.

Good policy matters. But policy only changes neighborhoods when there are people, institutions, and sustained financial resources behind it.

If last year‘s failed attempt to spend the city’s Rams settlement money was defined by feuds between various aldermanic cliques playing out in public, this time around the defining conflict is between united aldermen and a relatively small, but vocal group of members of the public pushing a diff...
