The Intercultural Music Initiative (IMI) in partnership with the Con Spirito Concert Series Kirkwood (First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood) proudly presents acclaimed bassoonist Maya Stone as guest artist with the IMI Chamber Players on Sunday, February 15 at 3:00 PM. Join us for a rare opportunity to hear one of today’s most expressive and versatile bassoon voices in an intimate setting. IMI Chamber Players showcasing in this Black History concert the beautiful sounds of our woodwinds: Wendy Hymes (flute), Carrie Smith (oboe), Mary Bryant (clarinet), Christina Schempf (horn), and Hank Skolnick (bassoon), with Bonnie Wilson (piano).

Seating is limited so come early to enjoy a truly immersive concert of music by Florence Price, Adolphus Hailstork, Nansi Carroll, Bohuslav Martinu, and the World Premiere of Fred Onovwerosuoke's "Rhapsodies for Wind Quintet, No. 1." Hear from the composer himself to learn more about "Nwomkro" and "Adowa," Ghanaian royal dance traditions that inspired the world premiere.

The February 15 program highlights IMI’s mission to celebrate global musical voices and broaden the canon of chamber music. “We are thrilled to welcome Maya Stone to St. Louis,” says IMI program director Dr. Wendy Hymes. “Her artistry and advocacy for under-represented composers align beautifully with IMI’s commitment to presenting diverse classical musical traditions and exceptional performances.”
