🖤❤️ ULSTLYP ALUMNI: YOUR STORY IS STILL PART OF OUR STORY
If you were ever a member of the Urban League Young Professionals of Metropolitan St. Louis, you helped build something special.
You attended the meetings. You planned the events. You served the community. You built friendships and professional relationships. You stayed late, showed up early, recruited members, developed programs, represented the organization and probably had more than a few unforgettable nights along the way.
And yes… you served your time. 😂
We know life moves forward. Careers grow. Families grow. Responsibilities change. Eventually, another generation steps into leadership.
But while you were helping build ULSTLYP, something else was happening:
ULSTLYP was helping build you.
Many of the young professionals who came through this organization are now executives, entrepreneurs, educators, nonprofit leaders, attorneys, healthcare professionals, technology leaders, creatives, public servants, community advocates, parents and mentors.
You’ve gained years of experience, relationships, knowledge and resources since your YP days.
Imagine what that experience could mean to the generation coming behind you.
A LITTLE ULSTLYP HISTORY WALKED BACK INTO THE ROOM
At our most recent General Body Meeting, former ULSTLYP Presidents Deanna Carroll and Kenya Leonard joined us.
What happened was exactly the kind of intergenerational exchange we want to create more often.
There were stories.
There was laughter.
There were lessons learned.
There were ideas about what worked before, what today’s members are experiencing and what ULSTLYP could become next.
Most importantly, Deanna and Kenya seemed genuinely excited to be part of the conversation and to engage with this new generation of YPs.
And our current members had an opportunity to connect with people who helped build the organization they’re now working to rebuild.
Today’s ULSTLYP is growing again, reconnecting and working toward returning this chapter to the legendary status so many alumni remember.
We’d love your help—not necessarily your time, but your experience.
THERE ARE A LOT OF WAYS TO COME BACK
Re-engaging doesn’t mean joining the Executive Leadership Team.
It doesn’t mean attending every meeting.
And we’re definitely not trying to give you another committee assignment. 😂
You decide what involvement looks like.
You can:
• Attend a General Body Meeting or special event.
• Speak on a panel or lead a professional-development conversation.
• Mentor a current YP.
• Share career advice or lessons from your leadership journey.
• Introduce ULSTLYP to someone in your professional network.
• Connect us with a company, sponsor, community organization or potential partner.
• Share job openings, internships, contracts, board opportunities or other professional opportunities.
• Sponsor or support a ULSTLYP initiative.
• Volunteer with us on a community-service project.
• Help us remember and document ULSTLYP’s history.
• Help revive a program or tradition from your era.
• Or simply come hang out with today’s YPs and share a few stories.
Sometimes one introduction, one conversation or one piece of advice can completely change a young professional’s trajectory.
🎤 OR LET US ASK: “WHERE ARE THEY NOW?”
Maybe you aren’t ready to jump back into meetings or programs.
That’s okay.
We’d still love to know where life has taken you since ULSTLYP.
We’re developing a “Where Are They Now?” Alumni Feature highlighting former ULSTLYP members and sharing their journeys with today’s generation.
Tell us:
What years were you involved with ULSTLYP?
What role did you play or what programs do you remember most?
What are you doing today?
How did your YP experience contribute to your personal or professional growth?
What’s one piece of advice you would give today’s ULSTLYP members?
And, of course…
What’s one ULSTLYP memory that still makes you smile—or laugh? 😂
We want today’s members to see the people who came before them and understand that they’re part of something much bigger than one meeting, one administration or one year.
LET’S RECONNECT THE GENERATIONS
ULSTLYP has decades of history.
That’s decades of relationships.
Decades of leadership.
Decades of professional experience.
Decades of community service.
And decades of people who walked through this organization and went on to do amazing things.
That is a network.
Our opportunity now is to reconnect it.
This isn’t about recreating the past.
It’s about connecting the people who built our past with the people building our future.
You already served.
You already contributed.
You already helped write part of the ULSTLYP story.
We’re simply inviting you to stay connected—and, when you can, reach back and help the next generation write theirs.
