The FPSE Neighborhood Association is working on taking over management of the dog park at Chouteau Park. We need to open a liability insurance policy with an estimate on how many dog park members we will have and provide the city a petition with 25 signatures.

šŸ—³ļø Voting has begun for Missouriā€™s primary elections

There is a lot on the August 4 ballot including 4 amendments to Missouriā€™s constitution. (Note that Amendment 3 regarding abortion will be on the November 3 ballot)
Voters will also choose Democrat and Republican nominees in several high-profile races including the U.S. Representative in Congress.
Proposition M is a straightforward measure to modernize language in the cityā€™s charter.

Hang out, eat some UCBC pizza, and/or help keep the native garden at Chouteau Park beautiful and blooming! Join some of your neighbors with weeding (and possibly watering) the garden. Weā€™ll bring the pizza, some drinks, and the tools for gardening!

Itā€™s hot out there! ā˜€ļø Stay cool and hydrated and if you have any young trees along your sidewalk, please help the community out by watering them. Any amount of water is better than no water šŸ’§ šŸŒ³
The images show the number of 5-gallon buckets of water to use for the size of the tree. Watering deeply once per week and in the morning is recommended. You may sign up on metrotreelc.org to mark a tree as watered.

The city also has instructions at stlouis-mo.gov/trees

To water a tree, apply 10-15 gallons of water to the ground over the root ball of the tree.
Water slowly to allow water to soak into the ground over the top of the root ball from the trunk to approximately 16 inches out from the trunk of the tree.

Watering is critical for the first three years of a transplanted tree for re-establishment. After that, you can reduce the amount of watering the tree per year.

DO NOT water the tree every day. Completely saturate the soil then allow time for the soil to dry out, permitting oxygen to reach the root system.

This dog park update may not be the news we want, but it will result in a better experience down the line. We are committed to opening the dog park back up as it is a beautiful community space for both humans and dogs.

The city parks department has removed the gates/fence due to the dog park not being in compliance with insurance and vaccination requirements.

The FPSE Neighborhood Association (with the help of Alderman Browning) will be working on taking over this management, but it will likely take some time.

In the meantime, the area is not an official dog park and the city is not liable for any loose dogs.

The fence panel was removed to allow for the city to mow, so blocking it with the picnic bench may not hold up in the short-term. Many dogs are also able to jump over this barrier (my dog certainly would have in her younger years) which causes a safety concern with the nearby playground. Since the fence panel was not paid for by the city, we are asking if it can be returned.

While the park is unsecured, you may wish to sign up for nearby K9 Garden šŸ• Lacledeā€™s Landing has a free dog park. Other city dog parks include: Benton Park Dog Park located in Fremont Park with a $45 annual fee for city residents. Shaw Dog Park located at 4101 Cleveland with a $70 annual fee for non-Shaw residents.
