We're in Jefferson City today for the annual Certified Local Government Forum hosted by the State Historic Preservation Office ! The Certified Local Government (CLG) program was established in 1980 through a Congressional amendment to the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). It is jointly administered by the National Park Service and State Historic Preservation Office and provides a mechanism for local governments to protect their historic places. It is important to note that the CLG program allows communities to determine in what manner, and how stringently, they will protect their historic resources. There are currently 64 CLG communities in Missouri — each with their own unique preservation ordinance and protections in place.
