Happy eighth day of Chanukah! 🕎

In the wake of the antisemitic attack at a public menorah celebration in Sydney, Australia, Mayor Cara Spencer stood with Rabbis Yosef and Chaim Landa of Chabad of Greater St. Louis at the Staenberg Menorah in Kiener Plaza—affirming that we answer hate with light, goodness, and unity.

As we approach the final nights of Chanukah, let’s lean into our Jewish identity. Light a menorah in your home. Attend a public menorah lighting. Bring your family, your neighbors, your friends. Stand in public with confidence and with pride.

From Sydney to St. Louis, the lesson is clear: the response to darkness is not retreat — it is more light. That is what Rabbi Eli Schlanger wanted. That is what the Rebbe wanted. And that is what this moment demands.

Earlier today Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe and First Lady Claudia Kehoe welcomed friends and community members to the annual Chanukah gathering at the Governor’s Mansion today, celebrating the second day of Chanukah.

The annual ceremony, led by Rabbi Yosef Landa and Chabad of Greater St. Louis, honored Chanukah’s timeless message of light over darkness and religious freedom, reflecting on the recent tragic events at the Chabad Chanukah celebration in Sydney.

Guests enjoyed traditional Chanukah songs with live piano, while the Governor and First Lady handed out gelt and dreidels to everyone. The celebration wrapped up with a kosher deli lunch featuring everyone’s favorites—latkes and jelly donuts.

Tonight we light the third candle on the menorah. Happy Chanukah!

Happy Chanukah! 🕎

Tonight we lit the Staenberg Menorah—the tallest menorah west of the Mississippi—standing proud and shining bright.

As Chanukah begins, we celebrate with joy and unity, while holding close our global Jewish family.

In moments of darkness, we answer with light—showing up stronger, more connected, and more committed to acts of goodness.

May this Chanukah bring comfort, courage, and miracles, and may the light we kindle together reach far beyond tonight.

Chanukah greetings from Congressman Wesley Bell! 🕎

This evening at sundown, Jewish communities in St. Louis and around the world celebrate the start of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. We join them in grieving the lives taken at a Hanukkah celebration in Australia, and in remembering that the story of Hanukkah reminds us that even in times of darkness, light prevails.

Wishing a happy, safe, healthy, and hopeful Hanukkah to everyone celebrating in St. Louis tonight. May perseverance, strength and resilience shine in all of us.
