Green Beret Youth Initiative was founded in honor of Green Beret Master Sergeant Micheal B. Riley. GBYI operates successfully in St. Louis, MO.

Mike believed, “achievement is possible for everyone with a helping hand.” Transformational change within communities begins with the support in the individual: problem-solving, decision making, and assertiveness competences, which will lead to behaviors that influence the attitudes and norms of the communities as a whole. With internationally proven after-school and weekend programs, the Green Beret Youth Initiative STL empowers kids to make a change in their lives and communities. Mike believed, “achievement is possible for everyone with a helping hand.” His strong ties to St. Louis and commitment to the community continues to guide us today. The core mission of the Green Berets is to train and assist partner forces. We are using this model to turn the tide of the problems children and families face today and win together. We have a no fail attitude – MOVING FORWARD is our motto.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a month since we gathered in Wiesbaden, Germany, to honor MSG Micheal B. Riley. ❤️

On June 27, our community came together for the Renaming Ceremony of the gym and the annual WOD in Mike’s name—a day filled with gratitude, remembrance, and purpose.
Mike’s legacy continues to inspire and move people across continents, and we are deeply humbled by this incredible honor.

Happy 250th, America! 🇺🇸
This Fourth of July, we celebrate not only our nation’s independence, but the values that continue to unite us: service, resilience, courage, and community.

At Green Beret Youth Initiative, we believe that honoring those values means more than reflecting on the past. It means investing in the future by offering a helping hand, creating opportunities, and empowering the next generation to keep MOVING FORWARD.

Deeply grateful to Black Rifle Coffee, for believing in our work and in the young people we serve.

Your support strengthens our mission and honors our community.

We had 4 amazing sessions during our summer program with the youth from SLACO. They had a fun time, learned about our R3 values, and put in the work during the group workouts!

We are so proud of all of the youth that showed up. MOVING FORWARD! 💚👊💪🏻

Seven years have passed, and Micheal B. Riley is still missed every single day by the people whose lives he lifted, strengthened, and believed in.
His courage, his heart for others, and his unwavering drive to help people push forward are the reason GBYI exists.

We built this organization because of Mike, because he showed us what service, resilience, and community truly look like.
Through hands‑on experiences in fitness, values, and teamwork,
we work to empower youth to discover their strengths, overcome challenges, and grow into leaders who serve their communities.
This is how we honor him. This is how we carry his dream of change forward.

Mike, your legacy lives in every young person who finds confidence, discipline, and hope through this program.
We miss you. We carry you. We continue because of you.
Rest in peace.
