Incarnate Word Foundation

Incarnate Word Foundation We work to achieve a St. Louis community where everyone can attain a quality life. Grantmaking and educations convening are cornerstones of our work.

The Incarnate Word Foundation was created in 1997 with the sale of the Deaconess Incarnate Word Health System. Since then, we’ve continued the mission of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word to make real the healing love of Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word. As a foundation in community with others, we listen, learn, envision, engage, and invest to help bring alive a strong, inclusive, and

equitable society where all may prosper. We fund agencies, programs, and projects to create unique, impactful solutions while remaining informed and agile to be able to pivot quickly when needs change.

Last month, we lost Sr. Annette Pezold, CCVI, the Incarnate Word Foundation’s praying sister.

Sr. Annette had a close connection to the Foundation, serving on our Board and, after retirement, volunteering for several years. During her time with us, she was a sparkling presence in the office, helping with many tasks and serving as our unofficial horticulturalist. She particularly enjoyed orchids, Christmas cactus, and anything that bloomed.

Sr. Annette brought gifts of practical wisdom, a quick wit, and thoughtfulness. Even after moving to San Antonio, she stayed in touch and took a real interest in our work. We were always in her prayers.

We miss her deeply and hold her family in our prayers.

We were blessed to have so many friends, colleagues, and supporters celebrating St. Louis Catholic Sisters on April 14 at The Courses at Forest Park.

The afternoon was filled with joy, reflection, and grace, and we are overflowing with gratitude, not only for the celebration but for the generations of sisters who have contributed to building and sustaining the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

This Christmas, we rejoice in Emmanuel - God with us -whose love continues to shine even in uncertain times.

We are grateful for our community partners, and for the ways they help make God’s compassion visible in the lives of our neighbors and communities.

May the peace of Christ dwell with you this Christmas and throughout the New Year.

“It’s not about the money. It’s about the commitment to the community.”

The nonprofit was created in response to the Ferguson Commission Report. It revitalizes vacant and dilapidated properties in underserved St. Louis neighborhoods like Dutchtown and Baden, renovating them before selling to first-time homebuyers.

"Catholic teaching exhorts nations to recognize the fundamental dignity of all persons, including immigrants. We bishops advocate for a meaningful reform of our nation’s immigration laws and procedures. Human dignity and national security are not in conflict. Both are possible if people of good will work together."

"Civil authorities are duty-bound to protect citizens and ensure the rule of law, especially against evildoers," the bishops stated. "Yet, it is equally just, and profoundly Christian, to distinguish between violent criminals and those who are fleeing persecution or crushing poverty to seek a better life."

Faith communities everywhere are coming together for prayer, reflection, and action. Will you join in? Every life is sacred, and together our voices can make a difference.

On October 10, people around the world will gather to say what we know to be true — the death penalty violates the sanctity of life and must be abolished.

Faith communities everywhere are coming together for prayer, reflection, and action. Will you join in? Every life is sacred, and together our voices can make a difference.
