History

Evangelist M. Marie Garrett was a powerful, influential woman of God. She was passionate about helping woman and empowering them to live a full confident life. Evangelist Garrett passed away August 2, 2016. About a year before her passing Evangelist Garrett was in the process of changing the name of her ministry to move in a new direction. The new direction was geared to making a greater, lasting impact on lives. One of the dreams of Evangelist Garrett was to open a place of safety, restoration and refuge for some of the most vulnerable among us, women and their children.

Her vision and mission came to be many years ago before Evangelist Garrett ever had children. For many years she was unable to physically have children of her own. During that season in her life she was known as “Mother Marie” to many. For many years she worked the mission on a small scale purely out of her servant’s heart. Out of her home she sowed seeds within her community. She spent most of her life opening her doors to many in need. She freely welcomed family, friends and even strangers to live in her home. It was common place for people to walk in afraid, broken, battered and bruised. However, they would leave delivered, set free, restored and filled with the empowering spirit of God. Much of these changes took place right in her living room. Through it all, she unknowingly prepared her children and others to take her sincere heart’s mission and take it to the next level to meet the great need in the community. Thus, Marie’s House was born, a registered 501c3 nonprofit shelter for women and children. A legacy community outreach that will honor a great mother to many.
