Despite repeated complaints about the selfie stick making another appearance, and despite this being approximately selfie stick number 6 or 7 because a certain someone keeps forgetting where he puts them, this photo captures what this was really about.

A group of volunteers gave up part of their Saturday to show up for a single mom of three going through metastatic cancer treatment. They cleaned, organized, landscaped, painted, hauled junk, completed projects, and worked side by side so this family could spend the day making memories instead of worrying about everything waiting for them at home.

This group right here is what makes days like this possible.

Thank you for helping us make this family forget cancer, just for one day.

That’s a wrap!

The amount of work happening right now is hard to capture in photos.

Volunteers are spread throughout the house and yard tackling projects big and small while this family gets something far more important: time together.

There is still plenty left to do, but seeing this many people come together for one family never gets old.

Days like this simply do not happen without people willing to step up in a big way.

This Great Day was fully funded by Spencer Fane, who didn’t just support this effort financially, they showed up with team members ready to work alongside us.

Because of their partnership, a single mom going through metastatic cancer treatment gets something every family deserves more of: time together.

We’re thankful to have partners who understand that showing up matters.

More than 30 volunteers will come together this morning for a single mom of three who is going through metastatic cancer treatment.

While she spends time with her kids making memories together, our volunteers, partners, and team will spend the morning doing what they do best: showing up.

This is going to be a big one.

When people see a Great Day, they usually see the finished product.

They see the volunteers, the transformed home, and the smiles from a family that finally had a chance to breathe for a few hours.

What they don’t always see is everything happening underneath it all.

The organized chaos. The moving parts. The structure behind the scenes. And for our founder, Tom Wiley, even the role ADHD has played in shaping how these days come together.

Tom wrote a personal blog about the routines, mindset, and energy behind every Great Day, and why he’s come to realize the way his brain works is actually part of what makes this mission possible.

We’re incredibly thankful to be named one of the 2026 grant recipients by The St. Louis Men's Group Against Cancer. Their continued support helps organizations all across our region bring hope, relief, and support to families facing cancer.

To see The December 5th Fund listed alongside so many incredible organizations serving this community means a lot to us. Every dollar awarded helps us continue creating Great Days for families while also providing practical support at home through our Helping Hands Support Plan.

Thank you to STLMGAC for believing in the work being done across St. Louis and for continuing to invest in families who need it most. ❤️

This is a moment where a family felt like themselves again during a really hard time. Tonight, we are trying to give that same moment to another family. And today, May 7th, would have been Laura’s 53rd birthday. There’s no better way to honor her than by helping us give that kind of day to someone else.

We’re in the final Power Hour from 9 to 10 PM, and every donation made then will be part of a shared prize pool.

Here's another small moment from December 5th, 2015...

A moment where a family got a break from what cancer had turned life into, even if it was just for a few hours. That idea has stayed with us.

A few months ago, we helped a young woman in her 20s who was going through cancer treatment while living on her own. She had been trying to keep up with everything at home, and it had started to pile up. She told us she almost canceled her Great Day because she was exhausted.

But she went.

While she was out, our volunteers cleaned her home, folded her laundry, and put everything back in order. When she came back, she stood in the doorway and cried. Not because she was overwhelmed, but because for the first time in a while, she felt like someone had stepped in to help.

That’s what your support makes possible.

We’re also in a Power Hour from 3 to 4 PM, and this is a great time to help make that happen again.

This was the morning of December 5, 2015.

Laura had hardly been able to get out of bed in the weeks leading up to that day. But that morning, she got up and made pancakes.

It may not sound like much, but it was everything.

That’s what a Great Day can look like. Not something big or over the top, just a moment where things feel normal again. We’re halfway through Give STL Day and still working toward our goal of giving that kind of day to another family.

If you’re in a place to give, there’s still time to be part of it.

This was part of December 5, 2015.

The kids were having a blast on the escalator, and if you look closely, there’s a security guard at the top keeping a very close eye on the situation. Safe to say he wasn’t nearly as entertained as the family was.

Tom let it go.

That day wasn’t about rules or routines. It was about letting a family have a few hours where things felt normal again, even if that meant riding the escalator one too many times.

We’re heading into a Power Hour from 9 to 10 AM, where a $20,000 prize pool will be shared across every donation made.

If you were planning to give, this is a great time to do it.
