🌿 From waste carbon to clean energy — right here in St. Louis!

A team led by Feng Jiao, Distinguished Professor at Washington University’s McKelvey School of Engineering, has found an innovative way to turn carbon waste into something valuable: energy-rich compounds.

Using affordable diaphragm materials instead of costly membranes, Jiao’s lab built a new type of carbon monoxide electrolyzer that not only cuts costs but runs longer and stronger — paving the way for greener, more efficient manufacturing.

💡 Proof that sustainable solutions can start in the lab and power the planet.

Happy Halloween from the Engineers’ Club of St. Louis! 🦇🎃👻

Every fall, St. Louis transforms with haunted houses and spooky attractions. Behind the jump scares and eerie lighting, engineers make it all possible.

From structural checks 🧱 to fire safety planning 🚒 to emergency exits and crowd flow 🚦, haunted attractions are carefully designed so the chills and thrills stay fun—and safe.

Even on the spookiest night of the year, engineers keep STL’s frights engineered to perfection.

: Dusk Shift, Safer Streets as Days Shorten

As the clocks tick toward shorter days, STL engineers adjust the rhythms of the city. 🌆

Traffic engineers at MoDOT, the City of St. Louis, and Bi-State Development use adaptive signal control to keep streets safer in the darker fall commute hours. This means:
🔦 Signal timing that adapts to rush-hour traffic after sunset
🚸 Visibility upgrades near schools and crossings
🚦 Seasonal adjustments to reduce congestion and improve safety

It is a reminder that engineering is not just concrete and steel, but timing, foresight, and public safety woven into our daily lives.

The fall season changes how we move. Engineers change with it.

🎲 Decathlon 2025 Standings Update

The fall stretch is here and the race is tight. After the latest rounds the board shows Kurtis Eisenbath at 43 points, Alexis McKenzie at 39, and Brian Heil at 37. The chase pack is right there with Sarah O’Sullivan at 29, Mel Ross at 27, and Bob Welsch at 26. John Killips and Logan Johnston are both sitting at 23 and ready to pounce.

Every game matters now. One lucky roll, one clutch hand, and the table can flip. Who are you pulling for down the home stretch?

🧱🍂
St. Louis is a city of brick, and when fall arrives, those walls need attention. Freeze, thaw, and moisture can turn small cracks into big problems.

That’s why engineers and masons focus this time of year on:
✔️ Tuckpointing mortar to keep out water
✔️ Stabilizing facades for safety and strength
✔️ Protecting foundations before winter storms hit

It’s seasonal work with year-round impact. These practices preserve not just buildings, but the history and identity of STL’s neighborhoods.
