Word In Motion Word In Motion is a 501(C)3 charitable organization that supports literacy and the arts in St. WIM governs The St. Louis, The Original SLAM in St. The St.

Louis by putting poets on stage, in workshops, in front of students of all ages. Louis Poetry Slam, promotes literacy and art in St. Louis, is looking for a 15 great poets, every third Wednesday of the month. Sign up is at 8, the show starts at 9pm with a CASH prize for the best poet of the night, decided by five random judges. There is a $5 cover charge. Poetry Slam = Poetry Competition. Louis Po

etry Slam was started in 1989 when Marc Smith transplanted it from Chicago to the Venice Cafe, hosted by Bob Putnam. It remained there for 2+ years and moved to the Wabash Triangle Cafe, once it had outgrown the venues limitations. When the Wabash tragically burned down in 1994 it lay fallow for 3 years. In 1997 Kevin McCameron, Hari Sky Campbell, Peter Sparks and David Noble rebooted the Slam on a dare from Michael O'Brian at Blueberry Hill. It has been ongoing since in numerous venues such as- Llywellyn's, The Red Sea, Dressell's, Rhythm & Brews, The Focal Point, etc. In 1999 it was incorporated as a non-profit Word in Motion.
