CAMPAIGN UPDATE - 08-2021 Fundraiser to help Vietnamese COVID-19 patients
Update: As of 09/26/2020, we have raised USD 4,451 through this campaign to support over 300 households in the central region of Vietnam affected by the economic distress caused by Covid19 pandemic.
This August 2021, we are restarting this fundraiser to support Covid19 patients who don’t have access to medical treatment, and low-income households that are living under lock-down in Ho Chi Minh City. We aim to reach the $7000 goal by mid-September in order to send help in time. Huyen Nguyen, the beneficiary of this GoFundMe campaign is our treasurer.

With the recent surge of the Delta variant, Vietnam is undergoing the toughest period of its battle with the coronavirus. Among all the areas affected by the pandemic, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is the largest resurgence center with an average of 4,000 new cases daily. As a result, most hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City are overloaded with thousands of patients at a time with very limited access to vaccines; the vaccination rate is just over 5% for the whole country.
DONATE TO HELP COVID19 PATIENTS AND NO-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS IN HO CHI MINH CITY
08/2021
Many COVID-19 patients have ended up staying at home under lockdown since the beginning of July, with no access to medical resources. Many of those with COVID-19 must treat themselves at home and cannot afford high quality medical care. Thousands among these cannot find or afford medicine at all due to the lockdown and the complete shutdown of economic activity in many sectors. With the shortage in medical equipment and supplies, the situation is getting worse by the hour.
As for grocery and supplies, some 70% of Ho Chi Minh City citizens work in the hospital-retail, trading and manufacturing sector with an average capita income of USD 350/month. With the economic lockdown going on in the last two months, and possibly continue til end of September, millions of workers have brought home zero dollars to provide for their families. With the inflation rate goes up due to shortage of supplies, low-income households don't even afford food and sanitary supplies to stay safe during the pandemic.
Amidst this crisis, many volunteer and nonprofit organizations and initiatives have come to life. Young Vietnamese at home and abroad have teamed up to raise funds and provide medical and living supplies, and, where possible, healthcare services to those in need. HEVN (Healthcare and Education for Vietnam) and IVC (International Volunteer Club) are two initiatives that operate a large network of volunteers in Vietnam to provide at-home emergency care to COVID-19 patients who would not otherwise get it, and to provide food and healthcare supplies to low-income and unemployed residents of Ho Chi Minh City.
Ho Chi Minh City is home to over 9,000,000 people and is under complete lockdown until mid-September, with an estimated 50% of the working population not receiving any income due to economic shutdown. Now, more than ever, citizens of Ho Chi Minh City need help from overseas. We hope you can perhaps spare the cost of a night out with friends or the price of a few coffees to give people in Ho Chi Minh City help they need. For every $25 donation, a COVID-19 patient will receive free medicine that they can administer at home, or a family of three will receive enough groceries and healthcare supplies for a week.
We appreciate your help and generosity during this difficult time!
