Through a week-long summer program, Anytown participants learn about diversity, inclusion, and how they can be equitable leaders in their communities.

The Anytown Youth Leadership Institute, a program of the National Conference for Community and Justice of Metropolitan St. Louis, is celebrating its 22nd year in St. Louis this summer. Over the course of one week, roughly 40 high school students come together to discuss issues of social justice (like racism & sexism) and how they can stop discrimination from continuing in their communities. A typi

cal day at Anytown includes interactive activities, open dialogue, clubs, and downtime with fun activities like swimming & games. Most of those attending Anytown don't know anyone else when they arrive, but by the end of the week, participants make a close group of friends dedicated to making our world a better place for all of us. NCCJ's Anytown Alumni Interns have been working hard on putting together a workshop on how to get started in activism and community organizing!

Friday, April 28th, join us virtually for a panel discussion with some folks who have made changes in their communities throughout the US. Learn about the challenges and rewards of activism, how activism can look different, and how you might be able to get involved.

With the arrival of Spring this week, we are getting filled with excitement for the summer. Can you believe we are 4 months away from Anytown 2023?!

You may be wondering how can you support Anytown's return this summer. We are so glad you asked! We have a few different ways you can support Anytown!

* Send a youth in your life!
Anytown is for youth ages 15-18 who are interested in making their school and community environments more socially just and equitable. If you have a youth in your life that would love this experience, have them apply at nccjstl.org/anytown

*Be a Sponsor
Most of our applicants are sponsored by their schools, but with the increase in pushback for DEI programs in schools and some changes from the Covid pandemic, some schools that we regularly worked with no longer have the funds to sponsor students. Consider partially or fully sponsoring an applicant's tuition.

*Connect us with a school
Anytown has been on a hiatus for 4 years and there have been lots of changes during that time. If you know someone at high schools or on the boards in North, West, and South St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and Jefferson County, help make a connection with us and the folks you know. These are some areas we are struggling to connect or reconnect with schools.

We are just over 150 days away from the return of Anytown Leadership Institute! Can you tell we are excited?!

If you are interested in being on staff with us this summer and haven't filled out your application there is still time, but not much! You can find the application on our website nccjstl.org/anytown

If you know a high school-aged young person, who wants to be a leader for change, grow in their social justice knowledge, and have an experience that will change their lives, send them to our website to apply! The final deadline is April 14th!

Check us out on Instagram and Twitter for our weekly youth focused discussion! Each Thursday at 6pm we post a question to promote community and facilitate dialogue around social justice topics for youth to share their thoughts and learn from each other no matter where everyone may be. This space is to highlight youth voice on how to make our communities more inclusive.

Today our discussion will focus on sharing women who have been influential to our communities throughout history.

I would like to welcome Connor Schlereth to the NCCJ St. Louis staff as the new Youth Program Coordinator beginning on Monday, January 3rd., 2022. Many of you already know Connor but for those that don't, he is an Anytown graduate from the early 2000's, he has served on Anytown staff several times and has also been a regular NCCJ trainer for several years. Please join me in welcoming Connor to the team even as he has been a part of the NCCJ StL family for a long time now.
