Summer is here, and we know that comes with mixed feelings - especially for foster and adoptive families.
The routine change and major transitions can be hard for foster children. School is out, schedules shift, and the outside support systems that help during the school year disappear. For parents, summer can feel isolating and overwhelming.
But One Heart is here for you.
You can reach out to us anytime to let us know what your struggles are. We provide resources, prayers, and a listening ear. Whether you need respite care, practical advice, or just someone who understands, we're walking this journey with you.
Summer doesn't have to be survived alone. You're part of the One Heart Family - and families show up for each other.
Need support? Email [email protected] or call us. We're here.

Our MO CARE foster parent training class started this week!
For the next 10 weeks, Monday evenings at One Heart will be filled with prospective foster parents learning how to care for Missouri's most vulnerable children. This week kicked off with introductions, expectations, and the foundations of trauma-informed care.
If you know someone in the class, encourage them! This is just the beginning of an incredible journey.
Already thinking about next steps? Our next MO CARE class starts September 14. Applications are due by August 14 - a month before class begins. Interested? Head to ohfm.org to learn more and apply.

As Foster Care Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to say thank you.
Thank you for following along this month. Thank you for learning about foster care, sharing our posts, and showing up for the families and kids in our community.
Awareness is important - but action is what changes lives.
If this month stirred something in you, don't let that feeling fade. Here's how you can take the next step:
✓ Foster or adopt - Our next MO CARE class starts June 1. Learn more at ohfm.org. ✓ Volunteer - Serve at our Foster Closet or help at an event. Sign up at ohfm.org/closet.
✓ Donate - Support our work through one-time or recurring gifts at ohfm.org.
✓ Advocate - Keep talking about foster care. Keep sharing stories. Keep showing up.
The awareness doesn't stop when May ends. The need doesn't go away. But together, we can keep making a difference.
Thank you for being part of our village. 💙

Not everyone is called to foster - but everyone can support foster families.
Foster Care Awareness Month is a great time to ask: how can I help the foster families in my community? Here are some practical ways to make a real difference:
Serve at the Foster Closet: Volunteer to help families shop, sort donations, or organize inventory. Sign up at ohfm.org/closet.
Schedule a serve day: Churches and groups - contact us about hosting a serve day at the closet. Tackle bigger projects together and make a lasting impact.
Send a meal: Fostering is exhausting. A home-cooked meal (or a gift card for takeout) can be a lifeline on a hard day.
Offer to babysit: Give foster parents a night out. It can be hard for them to ask for help, so offering proactively means the world. Even a few hours makes a difference.
Donate to the closet: Spring/summer clothes, diapers, toiletries, new socks and underwear - check our Amazon wishlist for specific needs.
You don't have to become a foster parent to support foster families. You just have to show up.
How will you support a foster family this month?

Did you know there are different types of foster care? Not all placements look the same, and different families are needed for different situations.
Respite Care: Short-term care (a weekend or a week) to give foster families a break. Perfect for families who can't commit long-term but want to support the community.
Kinship Care: When a child is placed with a relative or close family friend. These families often need the same support and resources as traditional foster families.
Traditional Foster Care: Temporary placement while the child's family works toward reunification. Length varies - could be months or years.
Therapeutic Foster Care: Caring for children with higher medical, emotional, or behavioral needs. Requires additional training and support.
Emergency/Short-Term Care: Immediate placement for kids who need a safe place right now. Could be overnight or a few weeks.
There's no single path to fostering. The question isn't "Can I foster?" - it's "Which type of fostering fits my family?"

MYTH: "Foster kids are broken and too damaged to help."
TRUTH: Foster kids are resilient, capable, and deserving of love - just like any other child.
Children enter foster care through no fault of their own. They've experienced trauma, yes. They've been through hard things that no child should go through. But that doesn't make them broken. It makes them kids who need extra support, patience, and people who won't give up on them.
We've seen it over and over: when kids are placed in stable, loving homes with families who understand trauma and are willing to learn, incredible healing happens. Kids thrive. They laugh. They trust again. They grow.
Are there challenges? Absolutely. Does it require patience, training, and support? Yes. But these kids aren't projects to fix - they're people to love.
One Heart trains families to understand trauma, respond with compassion, and walk this journey with realistic expectations and solid support. You don't need to be a therapist. You just need to show up.
These kids aren't broken. They're waiting for someone to believe in them.

"One Heart has been a solid foundation through our Foster Care Journey, from our first licensing class to answering late night phone calls when we've needed prayer and wisdom. Their love and shared faith in Jesus has done so much in our lives. For anyone who has a heart for kiddos, if you are able, supporting One Heart helps bring light and hope to an otherwise dark situation."
This is why we do what we do. Every family's journey is different, but One Heart is here to support you through all of it - training, placement, challenges, and celebrations.

What a night at the Magic House!
Last month, our One Heart families enjoyed an evening of play, laughter, and connection at our annual Magic House event. Watching kids explore, parents relax, and families bond in a space just for us reminded us why community matters so much.
Thank you to the Magic House for giving us this incredible opportunity every year. Having the museum to ourselves means families can truly be themselves - no rushing, no crowds, just quality time together.
And thank you to every family who came out. These moments matter. Fostering can be isolating, and events like this remind us that we're not doing this alone - we're part of something bigger.
Here's to more nights like this! 💙
