From scoliosis diagnosis to softball standout. 💙🥎

Kylie was diagnosed with scoliosis during a routine doctor’s visit. After seeking a second opinion at Shriners Children’s St. Louis, Kylie's care team recommended proactive bracing for her spine. That decision helped avoid surgical intervention—and kept her on the softball field.

Now, she’s competing at a national level and advocating for scoliosis screenings so other kids can continue doing what they love.

The statue found at every Shriners Children’s location is inspired by this special moment—captured 56 years ago today. 📸

It traces back to a Hadi Shriners picnic in Evansville, Indiana, where Shriner Al Hortman picked up Shriners Children's St. Louis patient, Bobbi Jo Wright, and helped carry her around for the day.

A local photographer captured this simple act of kindness—and the rest is history! The image would later inspire the creation of our iconic statue, called Editorial Without Words, a lasting symbol of compassion and care.

No bones about it—our care team loves helping kids. 🦴💙

After twisting his ankle at a Cub Scout camp out, Benji's family turned to our same-day fracture clinic. A visit with Nurse Practitioner Melissa Harkins revealed an ankle sprain with a possible growth plate fracture. He'll return in two weeks for follow-up care.

In the meantime, Benji stopped by Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services (POPS) where he was fitted with a boot to support his healing.

It’s baseball season, but the best move for Benji is slowing down, so his body can heal and get back in the game. ⚾

Help us show some 🩷 for little Mila!

Born with proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), Mila's left leg is shorter than her right. She receives specialized pediatric orthopedic care for her condition and a custom shoe lift at Shriners Children's St. Louis.

“Shriners gave us more than help, they gave us a peace of mind, hope and are giving Mila a future where her leg difference won’t be so different,” says Mila's mom, Kaylin.

When it comes to scoliosis, early detection can make all the difference.

During National Scoliosis Awareness Month, Shriners Children’s reminds parents and caregivers not to skip routine screenings.

“The best outcomes happen when scoliosis is identified early,” says Amer Samdani, M.D., neurosurgeon and chief of staff at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia.

Early evaluation by a specialist helps ensure children get the right care at the right time, and can help reduce the need for more complex treatments.
