Last spring, the YO gave the world premiere of Bachanalia, a piece composed by SLSO Conductor Laureate and YO Founder, Leonard Slatkin to celebrate the YO's 50th anniversary.

Bachanalia begins with the opening 8 bars of Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, the first piece ever rehearsed by the YO.

Of this first rehearsal, Slatkin states: "It remains my most vivid memory of the 27 years I spent in St. Louis. A sweeter sound had never been heard, at least to my ears."

You too can enjoy the sweet sounds of the YO this weekend! Join us on Sunday, November 13 at 3:00pm for the first concert of the 22/23 season.

The final YO concert of the 22/23 season is coming up on May 29 and we will have a very special guest joining us this time! We are honored to welcome Leonard Slatkin to the podium to conduct a piece he composed in honor of the YO's 50th anniversary. In addition, Stephanie Childress will lead the orchestra in performing William Grant Still's Symphony No. 3, "The Sunday Symphony", and Tchaikovsky's epic fourth symphony.

Musicians of the YO had a blast demonstrating their instruments for the SLSO’s youngest audience members before today’s family concert. As part of a pre-concert scavenger hunt, kids got to see and hear the instruments up close.
