Dec 3 IS THE LAST OFFICIAL EVENT OF S*X POSITIVE ST LOUIS.
We'll be meeting at Schlafly in Maplewood on Dec 3, 6-8pm.
15 years is a damn good run!
When we first started in October of 2010 as four Co-Founders - Anna, Jared, David, Kendra - we had no idea our not-for-profit group would eventually attract 5300 members, and that we would host more than 600 spectacular, unique events!
We started S*X+STL because we saw what ground-breaking things were happening on the east and west coasts, and we wanted to offer the same opportunities for the Midwest region, and bridge the gap.
They say that St Louis is a conservative city, but that just depends on who you're spending time with! Our members don't just live in St Louis city, but also the county, and surrounding Illinois and Missouri towns. Some folks would drive two hours to attend our events! Don't you wish every city had a s*x-positive org?
I've spent the past few days going back and making a list of the events we've hosted, and am honored to share a highlight review with you all.
We'll have time to mingle, then get into the "presentation." Audience participation is encouraged! We'd like to know what events have made an impression on you. We'll have original members attending - folks who attended at our very first happy hour at Foam on Cherokee Nov 2010, as well as people who are attending their very first - and last! - S*X+STL event.
If you are able, please bring a $$ tribute for our wonderful Schlafly bartender, Heather. She has been taking such good care of us the past couple years, so let's stuff her holiday stocking good!
An end of an era feels bittersweet, but this group has run its course. When we first started, I remember a group meeting we had at MoKaBee's in 2010. Some of the people attending did not think St Louis would see much progress in the world of s*x-positive issues, but I felt confident we could make a mark.
"A leader goes where she wants others to follow."
We've witnessed so many wonderful new organizations come to fruition in our community, supporting many orientations, marginalized folx, and alternative lifestyles. As an umbrella organization supporting all things s*x-positive, we feel proud to have collaborated with many other brave and bold local and national s*x educators, activists, and intellectuals.
It feels good knowing that we have lifted others up, and made so many worthwhile connections. We've changed so many lives for the better. And for that, we are very, very proud. Of us. And YOU.
So much gratitude.
We love you!
