A meaningful moment. đź’ś

During our meeting with Amal Clooney, we confirmed that When the Saints operates the only safe home in Malawi providing long-term trauma counseling for girls who have experienced abuse.

There are eight other safe homes in Malawi, most providing short-term care, serving both boys and girls, and/or not offering long-term trauma counseling. Seven of the nine safe homes were represented when Amal Clooney met with us at an event hosted by When the Saints, and it was so meaningful to see us all come together.

We are proud to be part of this important work and to stand alongside the other safe homes across Malawi. We are stronger when we work together, sharing what we have learned and supporting one another as we create safer spaces and help girls heal.

Boarding Facility Construction Update

Construction on our new boarding facility is progressing well. We recently completed the roof! While we have experienced a few typical construction delays, we plan to have the facility operational in the next couple of months.

This facility will provide a safe place for graduates of our program to continue their education while living in a special environment.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project. Your generosity is helping create brighter futures for vulnerable girls in Malawi.

The Ruckels & Our Second Safe Home

Ryan, Jessica, and Joseph Ruckel will be returning to Malawi for a two-week trip this November. This will be their final short-term visit before moving to Malawi permanently in June 2027 to help launch our second trauma counseling safe home.

One of the primary goals of the trip is purchasing land in Nkhotakota where the new safe home will be built. We are also excited to share that we have already reached 71% of our $165,000 goal for construction and first-year operating costs before even officially launching the campaign!

Since opening our safe home in 2016, our German Shepherds have helped provide security and protection for the girls in our care.

Over time, however, inbreeding has led to health issues among some of the puppies. Most recently, we sadly lost a puppy that was born with a severe cleft palate.

We are raising funds to purchase a new male German Shepherd to introduce a new bloodline. This will help ensure a safer environment for the 98 girls living in our counseling program as they focus on healing, education, and rebuilding their lives.
