“Experts have recently warned of cases of serious inflammatory illness in children possibly related to COVID-19. But a report in JAMA Pediatrics this week reinforces the fact that serious complications have been rare in children with the new coronavirus, especially if they have no underlying health conditions.”

Data on children with COVID-19, from 46 pediatric ICUs (PICUs), indicate that serious complications are rare, especially if they were previously healthy.

I’m going to throw back (not Thursday), but for pediatric stroke awareness and how it impacts us through the years.

Four years ago (February 2012)... I apologized to Brendon (age 6 and a half, at the time) for all that he has endured due to the stroke. It was then, when he looked deep into my eyes, and gently explained, "Mom, it's okay. God gave me this stroke so we can help other people."

NEVER WILL HIS STROKE, and OTHERS, BE IN VAIN!

“Pediatric stroke doesn’t come with a manual. It comes with a parent who never gives up.”
-Jessica Spear

The diagnosis was given and I don't know who or where to turn to for help or guidance.

What I did was... dig deep down from within me.

I began to understand my role as an advocate...trust in myself...give myself permission to feel emotions, yet not let them consume me...appreciate the small things that surround me...let go of negativity and build on the positive...to be compassionate and understanding of others...to find my circle...to let go...remember to breathe...to empower others...to be a part of the bigger picture...to hope...and to have faith!

Awareness saves lives!

It is not a given that a medical professional will know that strokes happen in children.

Knowledge prevents further damage and even death.

If you don’t think stroke you can’t rule it out.
