The Missouri Supreme Court has overturned legislation affecting redistricting and initiative petitions. That means the real fight is just beginning.

As we head into Labor Day weekend, let’s remember what the labor movement has always been about: standing together, fighting for working people, and never backing down when our voices are challenged.

There is still plenty of work ahead, but this is an encouraging step forward stay united, stay engaged, and enjoy a well earned Labor Day weekend with your families.

On August 20, 1866, the National Labor Union (NLU) was founded. It was the first attempt to bring labor organizations from across the country together under one national organization. This included the Coachmakers' International Union, Iron Moulders' International Union, and Machinists and Blacksmiths Union. So for sheet metal workers, this is absolutely worth recognizing as part of our broader history.
The NLU helped coordinate the efforts and goals of different unions and trades, giving working people a unified voice to advocate for better wages, working conditions, and the 8-hour workday.
The NLU was an early precursor to the national labor movement that eventually led to organizations like the AFL and, ultimately, today’s AFL-CIO.
