On May 29, 1943, Norman Rockwell published a cover for the Saturday Evening Post. It was a woman working an industrial job. This image was named Rosie the Riveter. Rosie the Riveter wasn't just an article in a paper. She was an idea, a symbol of pride for the hard working woman during WWII. Thank you to all the Rosies of the past and the ones making a difference today.

This Memorial Day, SMART Local 36 honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Their courage and selflessness, gave us the freedom to live, work, and build better lives for our families and communities.
As we gather with loved ones this weekend, let us never forget those who gave everything in service to our nation.
Thank you to all who served, and remember those we lost.

Pointfest 2026 was one for the books!
Great music and an even better crowd made for an unforgettable weekend. It was awesome seeing so many people come together to enjoy another year of one of St. Louis’ biggest rock festivals.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, hung out, and represented Local 36 throughout the event. We always appreciate the opportunity to connect with the community and show what union sheet metal workers are all about.
Already looking forward to next year’s Pointfest!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and here at SMART Local 36 we care deeply about our union family.
There are many resources available for our members, but one of the greatest resources we have is each other. Check in on your brothers and sisters, no matter what union they come from.
Our unions are built on solidarity, and that means standing together through the hard times too. Be the change you wish to see in the world.

The labor movement helped build the middle class in America, and many of the rights we have today came from union workers who fought for them.

Weekends off were not guaranteed until unions fought for the 40-hour work week. Child labor was once common in factories and mines before labor activists pushed for laws protecting children. Workplace safety regulations were created after workers organized against dangerous conditions that were costing lives every day.

Today, union workers still help set the standard for wages, benefits, training, and workplace safety across the country. Strong unions continue to protect skilled trades, create better opportunities for working families, and ensure workers have a voice on the job.
