Growing up, many of us didn’t have the best role models for what it means to be a good parent, spouse, or even a decent human being. Maybe the adults in your life were absent, distant, or too caught up in their own struggles to teach you what love, patience, and sacrifice really looked like. So when it was your turn - when you became a spouse, a parent, a leader - you had to figure it out on your own. And it’s been tough. Tough on you, tough on your family.
In this community, we hear it all the time- your family felt like you chose the mission over them. Because for a long time, that’s all you knew. The chaos of work was your comfort zone. But now, your mission is them. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that being a good partner, parent, and leader isn’t something you do alone.
You don’t have to figure it out by yourself. We all need someone to show us how to lead with love, sacrifice without hesitation, and have the patience to give more than we thought possible. Mentors matter - whether they’re from your unit, your church, the gym, or your circle of friends. They offer the guidance and accountability we need to grow.
Surround yourself with those who’ve walked this road before. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about progress. The best thing you can do for yourself and those you love is to find someone who’s been where you are and let them show you the way.
