The best scenario when creating a Christian estate plan is to work in collaboration. The original thoughts for your plan should come from you. Your amazing work doesn't go unnoticed. During their appearance on KFUO Radio's The Coffee Hour in December, Executive Director Rev. Dr. Matthew Heise and Asia Director Rev. Dr. Ted NaThalang of the Lutheran Heritage Foundation gave a big shout-out to the women of LWML. On the episode, they said that LWML was their biggest supporters.

Lutheran Heritage Foundation has been a partner and recipient of many mission grants over the years. This biennium, they are the recipient of Mission Grant No. 9: Introducing Muslims to the Savior — Lutheran Heritage Foundation, Global.

The project will send two LCMS Pastors to both Sierra Leone and Liberia to teach principles of doctrine and practice to Lutheran pastors in West Africa. LCMS pastors will make two trips per year (four for the biennium). The estimated cost for the team to travel and stay in West Africa is $21,000.

Students selected by their church body attend training for the Pastoral Ministry. In countries where witch doctors, Muslims, animism, prosperity preachers, and a mix of all of these is prevalent, to have the pure Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ proclaimed and taught is vital. The project also hopes to purchase Kindles or electronic books since paper books do not last long in this climate. A web portal will be established to allow teaching and completion of assignments between sessions.

This grant will cover travel, facility rental for teaching, lodging, meals, and materials.

September’s "His Story" honors Dorothy Degnitz, who answered God's call with the words from her confirmation days, "Here am I! Send me" (Isaiah 6:8). In 1966, her first assignment was to Immanuel Lutheran Hospital in Eket, Nigeria, and after war broke out, she returned to serve in refugee camps with the International Red Cross.

She then served the Lord for 11 and a half years in Papua New Guinea, followed by four years as deputy principal at the Lutheran School of Nursing. Through scary situations including an intruder and countless war checkpoints, Dorothy felt God's presence and recalled His comforting promises: "I am with you always" (Matthew 28:20) and "God is our refuge and strength" (Psalm 46:1). Today, looking forward to her 90th birthday, she continues to reach out with God's love by volunteering at her church and assisted living complex, inspiring other women to use their God-given talents for the Lord's work.

Read today's devotion --> The Word: Wisdom for Living — Today? Tomorrow?

In the Word
"Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring" (Proverbs 27:1).

Of the Word
Today is ours, a gift from God. Whether the sun is shining brightly or heavy rains are pounding against the windows, God wants us to have this day. Whether we are happy or sad, healthy or disabled, God made each of us part of His plan for today.

"This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it"(Psalm 118:24).

So why do we spend so much time thinking about tomorrow? The Psalmist instructs us to "rejoice" in "this day" — the day that is here and now. Boasting about tomorrow won’t get it done today! All too soon it will be tomorrow, and we may have passed up an opportunity that should have been taken today. With the power of God’s Holy Spirit behind us, let’s get busy and do what must be done today!

A Point to Ponder: Today is mine, God, a gift from You. How do You want me to use it?

Walking with my Lord
Lord, You have blessed me with today. May all I say and do be to Your glory. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Many LWML conventions this summer were blessed by the presence of Lutherans For Life, who joined us nationwide to share their powerful Gospel-centered message. Through exhibit tables, breakout sessions, and meaningful conversations, they equipped women with resources to confidently speak truth about life.

We are honored to continue supporting their vital work with multiple mission grants and convention offerings, investing in training that will reach generations to come. You can read Lutherans for Life Director of Volunteer Relations Michele Hartshorn's article on their website about their presence at several of our district conventions.

Lutherans for Life were the recipients of Mission Grant No. 26: Life Connection Events and Kits during the 2023–2025 biennium.
