This summer the National Benevolent Association welcomed Rev. Dr. Carla Rev. Dr. Perkins as our new Director of Mental Health and Wellness. In this position, Perkins will help guide NBA’s continued work to support mental health and wellness across the life of the church, creating spaces where people can find care, connection, and practical resources for healing and wholeness.

From an early age, Rev. Dr. Perkins understood that her life and work were connected to a larger legacy, not only to what had been given to her, but also to what she could help make possible for others. “I have always known that whatever I do, it just can't be for me. And because of that, I naturally wanted to pursue careers that involved helping people.”

The recent Black Women’s Leadership Experience (BWLE) Intergenerational Retreat brought together Black women across generations to invest in what matters most: wellness, connection, leadership, and community.

Rooted in the BWLE values of self-love, authenticity, creativity, healing, and compassion, participants spent the weekend engaging in wellness practices, intergenerational conversations, worship, reflection, and mutual encouragement. Together, they explored how leadership can emerge from a place of wholeness while strengthening a growing network of Black women committed to supporting one another's flourishing.

This is what community looks like. This is what collective care makes possible.
Interested in participating, but couldn’t attend? Stay turned for more information on two retreats taking place in Spring 2027!
