Obersturmführer Löw.

A moral officer, lost to obscurity and hidden; likely due to his stance of defiance to the orders at Le Paradis.

Obersturmführer Reinhold Loew (Löw)is seen with 3./SSTK-I.R.2.’s company mascot.

Loew commanded 2. Kompanie/SSTK-I.R.2., at Le Paradis and was the only officer from Fortenbacher’s battalion that vocalized his opposition to the illegal killing of prisoners at Le Paradis on 27. May, 1940.

It is also this author’s belief that it was none other than Loew who saved the men at Le Cornet Malo, stating they “fought like tigers.”

For his opposition to the crimes at Le Paradis, Loew was branded a coward by Fortenbacher and Knöchlein.

In 1941, Loew was promoted to Hauptsturmführer, and was actually placed in command of Knöchlein’s former company.
When SSTK-I.R.2. was dissolved due to losses, he commanded a Kradschützen company with SSTK in Russia.

Sadly, he was killed near Demjansk, in the village of Kirillowschtschina on 28. November, 1941; likely the only officer present who would have later told the truth about what happened at Le Paradis.
