Meet the students!! This is no doubt, our largest group of practicum students in a single year. Some might even call this a cohort.
Why so many? you might ask. We have a bunch of cool therapists with interest in supervising. Behind each student is a Monarch therapist giving dedicated support and collaboration. These students provide direct services to Monarch clients from case management or seniors services to therapy services on our CYMH team depending on their specialty area.

Every time a student spends their time and energy learning in a setting like ours, that means one more future provider with experience in immigrant and refugee health. We are ✨choosy✨ to say the least, about who we bring in and that means we get to learn a lot from our students, while they are also learning from our team. This ALSO means, more Monarch therapists getting to take on a new opportunity and often career goal of supervising!

A decade with someone very special 🧡

Sajida joined our team 10 years ago and since then has spent all her energy on keeping her clients feeling supported, adjusting to a decade’s worth of changes in available resources, and making everyone in the office laugh. Congratulations Sajida on an incredible milestone! 🦋

Today, we want to recognize the mental health providers and case managers at Monarch Immigrant Services.

Every day, they are working hard to find resources, navigate systems, solve problems, and come up with creative ways to support the immigrant and refugee communities we serve.

The work isn’t always easy. Resources can be limited, needs can be complex, and there is often no simple answer. But our team keeps showing up, figuring things out, and doing whatever they can to help people feel supported and build stable, fulfilling lives.

We’re grateful for the patience, creativity, compassion, and persistence they bring to this work every day.

Thank you for everything you do for our community. ❤️

Today is world mental health day. And while we could circulate an uplifting message about mental health services, instead we want to focus on something that is often missing from conversations about mental health: the experiences of immigrants and refugees.

Mental health cannot be separated from the realities people are living through. And lately, even the physical safety of immigrants and refugees has become a topic of public debate. Their presence, their contributions, and even their worthiness of belonging are being questioned.

We know this is a scary and disheartening time for many people in our community. We know some are feeling devalued, unheard, and like their humanity is being pushed aside. Your mental health matters, and so does your safety, your dignity, and your sense of belonging.

We would never tell you how to vote. But we will tell you that almost all the people in this photo have become citizens and are now able to vote thanks to Monarch Immigrant Services and case manager Miranda Gace. Many of them reside independently or semi-independently in St. Louis County, which brings us to November 3, 2026 and Prop S.

Prop S would establish a tax levy to create a senior citizens service fund in St. Louis County similar to the one that is operated in St. Louis City and about half of all other counties in the state. The funding would be designated for community-based services including transportation, home repair, and other supports for a growing older adult population in the County. We have attended several meetings on Prop S, and we can attest that this is a non-partisan, community organization-driven initiative and not some kind of backroom handout.

Times are tight and nobody really craves additional taxation. What we can tell you is that Monarch has worked with the City's senior fund for almost a decade now and have nothing but positive things to say about the accountable administration of those tax levy funds. And when the tornado came through last year, Senior Fund-funded organizations were some of the first on the ground responding to the needs of older adults in the storm's path.

But again, we're not telling you how to vote. Here's a concise resource to read up on the proposal: https://stlcountyprops.com/, but feel free to do your own research as well. And whether for or against, GO VOTE!!

This Mental Illness Awareness Week, we recognize the challenges that affect immigrant and refugee communities.

Trauma, displacement, family separation, isolation, and the stress of adjusting to a new country can significantly contribute to mental illness. On top of all that, the scarcity of affordable and culturally responsive services, language barriers, and a lack of community resources makes it even more difficult to find support.

Immigrants and refugees deserve access to appropriate, accessible, and culturally responsive mental health services.

At Monarch Immigrant Services, we recognize the importance of addressing these barriers and supporting the mental health of the communities we serve.

Here in the St. Louis region, our community is made up of people with roots in many different countries, cultures, traditions, and histories.

From Mexico and Central America to South America, the Caribbean, and beyond, each community brings its own language, food, music, traditions, and stories.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate that diversity and the many ways Hispanic communities contribute to the St. Louis region.

Our differences are part of what makes our community stronger.

At Monarch, we are honored to be welcomed into the lives of so many individuals and families. We are grateful for the trust, stories, cultures, and experiences that our community shares with us every day.

Every person, every culture, and every story deserves to be seen, heard, and supported.

¡Celebramos nuestra diversidad! 💛

When we talk about su***de prevention and mental health, immigrant and refugee communities are often left out of the conversation.

But they’re here.
They’re part of our families, our neighborhoods, and our communities.

Starting over in a new country can bring loneliness, stress, trauma, language barriers, and separation from loved ones. Their mental health matters, too.

This Su***de Prevention Month, let’s make sure no one is forgotten.

Check in. Listen. Reach out.
And if you’re not sure what to say, just start with listening. You don’t need to have all the answers. Being there matters.
