During the month of April we are going to highlight some our leaders starting with Legacy!

Legacy Jackson is a passionate leader and community advocate dedicated to making a difference. As the founder of Little Legacies, she strives to empower young people to give back, build relationships, and create lasting change in their communities. From a young age, Legacy believed in the power of service, and she turned that passion into action—organizing volunteer events, supporting families in need, and creating opportunities for youth to engage in meaningful service projects. Her mission: empower kids and serve others while having fun.
Legacy is always looking for others to join her in this movement! If you're looking to create a legacy, get involved with Little Legacies and be part of something bigger at https://littlelegaciescommunityservice.wordpress.com/

We are thrilled to share that, thanks to the generous funds raised at our SLU basketball event last month, we were able to provide new balls for Ms. Belger's first-grade class ballpit! Our founder, Legacy, had the honor of personally delivering them. Are you or your child are interested in learning how you can participate in similar opportunities in the future and create a lasting impact? Last night the Little Legacies teamed up with Gateway 180 for a night at the St. Louis University Women's Basketball Game! This project was important to us because we wanted to take young people to a college campus and we wanted to support female athletes! The game was good and we got a chance to see Hannah Wallace #1, Cardinal Ritter graduate, SLU Freshman, and a star player who scored 10 points last night! It was funny to hear her tell Legacy OMG you've grown up so much lol. The best part of the night was talking to one of the mothers from the shelter who thanked me because she has not been able to be with her 6 kids in 6 months. They are temporarily separated and with different family members. Last night we provided the opportunity for them to all come together and enjoy the game. God I thank you for allowing us to help strengthen family bonds, build relationships, and stand in the gaps. We consider it an honor to serve and provide service opportunities for youth in our communities. Our mission is kids, service and fun and last night was all of the above!

With permission from the founder 😁.. I asked her if we should postpone the February project since she was sick and hospitalized... Her answer was NO Whether I'm there or not, they still need to go. This girl here is the true definition of legacy (a long-lasting impact on the lives of others). So with that being said, we invite you to join us aSatu3rday February 8, 2025 at the St. Louis University Women's Basketball Game! This event is guaranteed to sell out and seats are limited. Come ball with us and help us provide balls for Ms. Belger's first grade ball pit!

Dr. Martin Luther King Day 2025 at Gateway 180 was everything that I prayed for! Our community came together and played games, heard speeches from young people, ate and showed love to the residents. On a day where so much was happening around the world, we were in the right place at the right time! OAN shout out to the adults who showed no mercy to the kids in the GIANT UNO game. I mean cards were slapping and there was sooooo much trash talking. At one point I even leaned in and told an adult to take it easy on an 8 year old who was still learning. I gave a few reasons why I felt like it was the right thing to do. He politely pointed to the right and said SORRY is over there! 😂 By the time the day was over, the little girl was talking trash back to him and winning. This definitely felt like we were one BIG FAMILY where race, gender, and socioeconomics did not matter! My highlight was being able to tell the story of my student who I taught in 5th grade and who brought her daughter to volunteer with the Little Legacies. Her class was HORRIBLE and they had previously made their teacher quit. I arrived in January and they were accustomed to doing what they wanted to do. I had to break the destructive patterns and traditions that they were used to. They didn't like me and I didn't like them. Many were angry and coming from homes where poverty was rampant. They called me Joe Clark. I was very young then and every day I went there with the goal of teaching, mentoring, and changing lives. Yesterday she told me and everyone at the event how my expectations of her and her classmates changed their lives. This is what living the DREAM of Dr. King looks like in action! Thank you to everyone who came, Nike, Mother's on Wheels, Gateway 180 and God!

On this Martin Luther King Day of Service, we reflect on Dr. King’s legacy of kindness, compassion, and community. He reminded us that “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”*

The Little Legacies Community Service Organization has been doing the work of Dr. King's Dream by aeeving others every month since 2016.

Today, we invite you to join us in honoring Dr. King by giving back to your community. Whether it’s joining us for a game day at the shelter, volunteering your time, or simply spreading kindness, every action makes a difference.

We encourage everyone to make this a day of action, reflection, and service. Together, we can build stronger, kinder communities. What’s one way you’re giving back today? Share your story in the comments!
