Please note, while Independence Center does not operate 988, we encourage anyone in need of support to call or text 988.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close we reflect on what belonging truly means.

Even though the month is ending, that doesn’t mean our mission will.

Today can look and feel different for everyone.

Memorial Day is a time many pause for remembrance and reflection. For some, it can also bring a mix of emotions. In moments like these, connection and support can mean a lot.

We’re grateful to be part of a community where that’s always present.

This week at Independence Center.

Wednesday night Members and Staff went to Energizer Park to cheer on St. Louis CITY SC.

Some of the staff were able to take part in the club's "Tackle the Struggle", a campaign for Mental Health Awareness, by holding the flag at midfield during pregame ceremonies.

Around Independence Center she is known as Miss Pam or Mama Pam, which makes sense because to her "this Center is family".

Pam has been a Member of Independence Center since 2021. When she joined Independence Center her self-esteem was at an all-time low. She lets everyone know that when she started, she was 285lbs. She credits the Work Order Day for helping her get out of her house, out of her shell, and make her move around. Because of her new involvement with the Clubhouse she dropped her weight over 4 years to 218, with a goal of 200.

Pam can be found helping all over the Clubhouse, but her favorite thing is Orientation every Tuesday. She loves being involved with new Members and being part of the reason they come back!
