Smyrna Beach Garden presents a Milkweed Plant Box

At the May 4th, 2026 Edgewater City Council Meeting, the New Smyrna Beach Garden Club (NSBGC) presented Mayor Diezel DePew with a Milkweed Plant Box custom-made by members of the Butterfly Gardening Certification Committee (BGCC). This garden club conservation project was initiated to heighten awareness of the importance of planting native milkweed for our declining numbers of Monarchs. In addition, the NSBGC wanted to thank the City of Edgewater for their ongoing commitment to butterfly and pollinator conservation; exemplified by their Monarch City USA status, annual Community Earth Day Festival, as well as their dedication to the Butterfly Sanctuary Garden at Hawks Park.
The presentation was lead by the NSBGC President, JoAnne Anderson; along with BGCC members Dave Bruce (Project Leader), Susan Bruce, and Mary Heasley.
