Our board members are doing big things for Missouri public education at Missouri School Boards' Association's Annual Conference! 🏆

Congratulations to Dr. Sharonica Hardin-Bartley of School District of University City on being named the 2027 Missouri Superintendent of the Year! This award celebrates the superintendents whose leadership changes what's possible for students. Dr. Hardin-Bartley's focus on literacy, student well-being and community partnership makes her a very deserving recipient.

Dr. Hardin-Bartley serves as Chair Emeritus on the BBBSEMO Board of Directors and has been a long-time supporter of our agency and instrumental partner within The School District of University City.

Another BBBSEMO board member and motivational speaker, John O'Leary - Live Inspired, also attended the conference as a speaker and session leader where he inspired the audience with his words of encouragement to educators. John was impacted by his relationship with mentor, Jack Buck of the St. Louis Cardinals, and has continued to be a supporter of BBBSEMO and our youth. This past year, he has invited our youth to a screening of his movie, Soul on Fire, telling his mentorship story and the impact it had on his life.

Maverick and Brendon's bond exemplifies the resiliency and power of relationships created through BBBSEMO 🫂

Little Maverick exemplifies courage, bravery and perseverance beyond his years. At just 15 years old, he has endured numerous surgeries, lengthy hospital stays and countless doctors' appointments, often traveling to Ohio with his mother for specialized care.

Despite these challenges, Maverick continues to face each obstacle with a smile on his face. He finds support and encouragement through his relationship with his Big Brother, Brendon, and together they enjoy trying new experiences and making the most of their time together.

Maverick's resilience and determination is truly inspiring.💚 We're sharing Maverick's story to celebrate young people whose stories inspire us all with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and LAIKA Studios' Wildwood.

A night of mentorship stories to remember 📖

Recruitment team members, Ericka Sanders and Marquetta Wise, attended D.L. Hughley's "Charlie's Boy: A Memoir" show at The Pageant Thursday night to table and recruit volunteers. D.L. Hughley's memoir documents his rise from the streets of Los Angeles to the national spotlight that was defined by the relationship with his mentor, Charlie Hughley. Though he was not D.L.’s biological father, Charlie gave his boy the only thing he truly needed: a sense of being seen.

We are proud to support mentorship and hear stories inside and outside of our agency. We extend our gratitude to board member, Kristen Sorth and St. Louis County Library for inviting us to the event and giving us the opportunity to connect with caring members of our community!

We're excited to announce our Faith-and-U partner in Cape Girardeau, Bethel Assembly of God Church!

Bethel Assembly of God of Cape Girardeau has been a network partner of ABCToday in our Southern Region since 2015 and is helping us reach our goal of 150 volunteers by the end of the year. Brittney Swicionis, Associate Regional Director of ABCToday Schools, will be at Bethel Assembly of God Church Cape Campus TONIGHT at 6 p.m.

Brittney will present and table for the congregation and connect on a deeper level about mission and ways to impact the community together.

BBBSEMO youth and families are also invited to Bethel's Drive-Thru Trunks of Treats event on October 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Levi's Adventure Trail in Cape County South Park. Attendees will enjoy decorated trunks, character costumes, scavenger hunt, candy and more!
