NutriFund's Growing Impact in Honduras:

Based in the city of Yoro — an agricultural hub known for producing coffee, beans, corn and lumber — our programs currently serve communities across multiple municipalities, reaching hundreds of families with nutritional support, education and care.

Together, we are building healthier futures for children and families throughout the region.

From uncertainty to stability, the story of Teresa and Jaime reflects the power of community-based care:

Since joining Nutrifund’s Community Health Program in 2021, Teresa received ongoing support through pregnancy and early childhood for both of her sons. When her youngest, Jaime, began losing weight due to a loss of appetite, she was able to quickly connect with our team and access the care and nutritional support he needed. Today, Jaime is a healthy two-year-old—and Teresa has the knowledge and confidence to care for her children, even in the face of ongoing challenges.

Nutrifund International works alongside communities in Honduras to prevent and treat childhood malnutrition through healthcare, nutrition, and education—empowering families and strengthening local health systems for lasting change.

Because when families are supported, entire communities grow stronger.

This is Genesis. She arrived at the nutrition center as a fragile one-year-old, severely malnourished from months of being abused in her home. Slowly but surely, however, and surrounded by loving caregivers, she built strength in her body and confidence in her mind. We are so proud to share that Genesis will soon graduate from Kindergarten!

As part of our continuing series introducing the San Yves team, we sat down with Arianny Chavez, Program Manager for our community-based work across 25 rural villages. In her role, she is tasked with identifying communities for program expansion and building relationships with them.

A nursing student, mother, and lifelong volunteer, Arianny brings energy, compassion, and deep local knowledge to everything she does.

Laura and Martier's infant daughter was suffering from malnutrition so they checked her into the hospital in Yoro where they spent several days in the pediatric unit, scared, and with little explanation or support.

Fortunately, in the case of Laura and Martier, the hospital reached out to Arianny, a program manager with NutriFund, who met the parents at the hospital. She did not, however, confront them with papers to read and documents to sign. Instead, she offered them time, empathy, and the willingness to listen.

Out of this simple gesture of support, Laura and Martier agreed to visit San Yves. A month later, Laura and her daughter are still with us today.

Last year we welcomed Nahin George as the new executive director of the nutrition center. His natural charisma and sense of leadership, not to mention his local knowledge (Nahin is a Yoro native) has made for an inspiring transition at San Yves.

We recently caught up with Nahin for a Q&A about what motivates him, what he finds most difficult, and what gives him hope. Follow the link below to read more:
