September is approaching fast, which means new opportunities to show pride! We have had such a whirlwind of a year-- pandemic and all-- that we would like to get back on track with our mission to spread awareness of A-Spec individuals.

Community side: Bi+Visibility has been such a welcoming project to take us under their wing, that we would like to personally thank them. They haven't forgotten us or attempted to overstep us in any step of our process, and would still like to work with us. We lost a great deal of momentum, and would appreciate activity from already established members as well as new, eager faces for the September pride event as well as socially distanced fun!

Be on the lookout for updates.

SLASH would like to give a shoutout to Pride St. Louis for allowing us to use our community center for our first support hub meeting.

We were able to discuss things important to A-spec individuals, as well as ideas to help raise funds so we can grow to be the resource and main community support for A-spec individuals in St. Louis.

After our first successful meeting, we look forward to the next one and will post details soon. Thank you for all of your support, St. Louis. We look forward to growing and supporting our A-spec community, and the larger LGBTQIA+ community as a whole.

Just a quick reminder: SLASH will be hosting it's first Support Hub meeting Sunday the 23rd. We hope to see you there!

Asexuals and Aromantics are like peanut butter and jelly.

When people think of one, they often think of the other.

Putting the two together makes sense.

They compliment each other and support each other, bringing out the best in each other.

But they are two different things that are still awesome when they are by themselves.

This has been a PSA from SLASH in honor of Aromantic Awareness Week.

To everyone in the greater LGBTQIA+ and especially to our aromantic friends, we here at SLASH platonically love you all, and thank you for your support and donations as we work to support our wonderful A-spec community.

Today begins Aromantic Awareness Week! Usually, aromantics are lumped together with asexuals under the larger Ace umbrella, but the two are not mutually exclusive. Because the two orientations are often bound together though, it only makes sense that asexuals (sexual orientation) and aromantics (romantic orientation) would team up and be natural allies to each other.

So, with our powers combined, let's raise awareness!

Hello everyone. Just a quick PSA:

We here at SLASH know that some people, especially members in our community sometimes struggle with Valentine's Day for different reasons than the 99% of the sexual population.

You are valid. You are normal. You are amazing.

Seriously. Most A-Spec individuals have one thing going for them that not everyone in the 99% has; a better understanding of relationships over all. We don't need a holiday to remind us once a year to stop taking our relationships for granted. We know how precious each and every one is, whether they are familial, romantic, or platonic. Each is just as important as the other.

So no matter on your view of today, no matter your orientations, know that we see you and accept you and want to remind you that you got this.

Important Things in February:

Black History Month: Dedicated to honoring those of African American heritage, past and present, and helping the future reach new heights. This should not be only maintained in February, but year-round.

February 13th: Galentine's day. A day for women (and feminine leaning, identifying persons) to spend with their closest friends doing things they enjoy. (This should not be only maintained in February, but year-round.)

February 14th: Valentine's day. A day for people romantically involved to remind their partners just how much they love them. (This should not be only maintained in February, but year-round.)

February 15th: Pal-entine's day and Half Price Chocolate day. A day for friends to get together and celebrate with half price chocolate, showing how much their platonic relationships matter. (This should not be only maintained in February, but year-round, except the chocolate, which is only half price again after certain other holidays).

The first full week after February 14th (this starts on February 16th this year, 2020) Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week. A week to bring awareness, education, and acceptance to those who fall on the Aro-spectrum.

This list is not exhaustive, but we felt these were some important dates to keep in mind.

Thanks to our siblings over at Bi+ Visibility STL for sharing this (so that we found it).

This is why it is so important for us to have support and a voice. Because we are your friends, your partners, your parents. We know you may not understand. But we love, accept, and support our friends, partners, parents, and loved ones even when we don't fully understand their sexuality.

It isn't too much to ask to be treated the same.

So thank you to all of you who do accept and support us as we find our way. We truly

Don't you EVER invalidate someone's identity just because YOU don't understand. It ain't about you, especially if it's someone else's identity.

One of the reasons it is important for A-spec individuals to have a support system is because of micro-aggressions. These pesky little comments can slowly dig away at a person's confidence or validity. Many times, the person saying the comment doesn't even realize that what they have said can be so destructive.

Getting the world to understand will be a long battle... And we are so much further behind than our LGBTQIA+ family. So while we stand and support them, we also need to stand up for ourselves. And groups like SLASH will be here to help the A-spec community. We will be here to educate, to accept, and to form tight bonds of community with.

Please consider donating to our cause so we can ensure no one feels erased, broken, or invalid. Thank you.

Even if you mean well.
